Default How does a breather hose work?

can someone please tell me how a breather hose works? To my knowledge it is suppose to sorta take out the moisture in the air that is flowing thru the intake...is this assumption right? Also why is it connected into the valve body/cam housing? If my assumption is correct then why would the moisture need to go in to the valve body/cam housing?

My reason for asking is that a friend of mines installed a short ram intake on his brand new v6 mustang, but tha intake didnt have a nipple or a hole for the breather hose and somehow small amounts of water got into his engin after the intakw was installed.

in regards

Not 100% on the breather hose, but the 99-02 v6 mustangs dont have a breather hose it is an IAT line and the 03-04 have it on the throttle body. If he has that line he needs to get an intake for his year and put that line on the intake. However the water in his engine how does he know it got in? If it is in his oil or something it probably isn't intake related.
