I developped a new solution and it has been working great for me: the HTPC (High Tech Pepsi Can) fix

I am not responsible for what you to your car yadayadayada and also it is very important that you use a Pepsi can Coke or Sprite will screw the whole thing up!

moving on basically the concept is to make the hole smaller so that less exaust gasses pass through the non-foulers to the O2 sensor. One could weld a metal bead onto a non-fouler to make the hole smaller, but this is cheaper and you get to enjoy a fizzy, sugary, beverage.

You need a standard non-fouler fix, ie a drilled out nonfouler, screwed into a normal one:


Now get a 3rd non-fouler and grap a can of Pepsi:


Start by drilling a small hole in the bottom of the can, a 7/64"or a 1/8" drill bit should work fine:


Now get a sharp pair of scissors, and begin cutting your can, be very careful, aluminum can be sharp!


continue cutting like so:




basically you want to end up with a small square piece of aluminum with the small hole in the center:


trim the square so that you can drop it into your 3rd non fouler:


and screw the original two into the third one, when in installed it should go like:
O2 sensor - drilled out non-fouler - regular non-fouler - aluminum piece - regular non-fouler - S-pipe

Notice how much less light can pass through this setup:


I hope this works for those of you that the standard non-fouler trick did not work for, and do not forget to properly reset you ECU.

what if you put the secondary o2 sensor in an antifouler that was completely welded shut to close off all the gases?

 

^^Doing this would probably throw a CEL - for a different fault. The ECU compares the outputs from both sensors, looking for small voltage changes from the second, in correlation with output changes from the first sensor (AFR). Since the 2nd sensor would now show a steady output - since it's not exposed to the exhaust stream - the ECU would think that 2nd sensor was faulty.

Yes you will throw a different fault code. I had wondered the same thing too. Now what would be effect would be to weld one shut and then drill a small hold, thus acheiving the same result as my Pepsi can fix. If you can weld go for it, if you can't, do the can fix to save yourself money/effort.

 

i was thinkin about this today. instead of aluminum from a pepsi can you could take a washer with a small hole in the middle and put it inbetween 2 antifoulers.

 

hey if you can find a washer with a small hole that can fit between the 2 non-foulers, go for it; what ever gets the job done, let me know how it goes.

 

Why not just buy the CEL eliminator and make it alot faster and making sure it works.

yea but it keeps coming back. to pass emissions you must have a clean record of no CEL's over a period of time.

that check engine light eliminator looks like it just might work really good.

 

It does work good, I used one on my tC for over a year and a half with no issues what so ever. I tryed the anti fouler things you guys are doing and eventually it comes back. This fixed it for good.

 

I will be the first to admit my solution is ghetto, however it isnt $45 bucks. So why not try my idea and use the money you saved to get some cathodes.

 

I gues ill have to get the anti fouler then... anyone know if it works well for the megan racing header?

 

The CEL Eliminator works with all the headers.

I do agree the the first one is cheaper. Hell I tryed it long ago. But eventually ended up buying the right one. Just depends on how many times you want to mess with it trying.
