i highly recommend redline mt90
its good stuff. my transmission shifts so much smoother. all you need is 3 quarts and at about 10 dollars a quart. 30 bucks is well worth it. also gives you a chance to inspect for metal shavings in your gear oil when you drain it out.
I RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYBODY

hmm.. ive been thinkin bout it too. these trannys feel like poo. is it safe? i coulda sworn i saw someone say its good for now but leads to bad news. i thought it was bs any fluids better than wats in there stock
stock fluid isnt synthetic so its not that great. amsoil or redline is great just dont get royal purple. thats the one that leads to bad news. it corrodes your brass synchros. whatever you get just make sure it says GL4 and not GL5.
I think GL5 rated oils are fine for synchros as long as they are not intended for clutch type LSDs. I use Motul Gear 300 which has both GL4 and GL5 ratings. If you track or drive your car hard I would recommend the Gear 300.
hell, if you want, get it in there as soon as possible. or wait till the next service interval that requires it. i think 30 and 60 and 90 and 120k is when youre supposed to change it. my cars at 8500 right now and im gonna change it again at 30.
yea dude. some people use royal purple in their transmissions but some people say its not good to do it. id rather not.
when i change my motor oil im gonna put in royal purple or amsoil.

I am planning on doing this too before I get my S/C installed, as well as change the bushings also.
I'm going to do Royal Purple 5w-30, the Redline MT-90...

some people say first has one. some people say first doesnt. reverse for sure doesnt have one because if it did it wouldnt grind because the car is barely rolling. first gear you can put it in gear without it grinding even though you have to be going pretty slow. i read on here where a toyota mechanic said our transmissions DO have a 1st gear synchro.
the reason they leave them off i think is because its cheaper to do so and theyre not really necessary. sortof cutting corners i guess you could say.
