Default i think i have an engine knock

So I did the first 2 oil changes on my 2009 tc and used 10w-30 royal purple full synthetic. I went in yesterday to the dealer to get one of my "free oil changes" because I really dont have the time to do it....2 jobs and seattle's wet weather kind of put me in a bind. So, I get home today and I am sitting in my car after I pull into my spot and I can hear this fairly quiet knock which sounds like holding 2 big rocks and kinda clanking them together. I don't use crappy gas so I do not think its that. I do not really wanna go to the dealership and deal with that BS so I figured I would ask you guys....any thoughts?

Wait...so you switched to full synthetic during break-in period since day 1? Even RP recommends switching from conventional oil after 2000miles for new cars. Hmm....you should've stayed w/ RP then. Plus, I thought the new ones use 5w-20 oil grade?

no, i used the oil that was in the car when i got it for 3000 miles, switched to 10w-30 synthetic for roughly 1500 miles to clean it out kinda (didnt know i was supposed to use 5w-20...the '06 tc i had was 10w-30 if i remember), then changed the oil again with 10w-30 synthetic. Took it to the dealer yesterday for the free oil change and the guy said it wouldnt hurt it to go back to 5w-20 conventional oil. i dunno if that explains a little more or not?

Take it to the dealer and have them figure it out? You have a warranty for a reason.

take it back to the dealership, have them figure it out, if they start becoming a pain in the butt, call scion corporate to straighten them out, you just bought a new car with a nice powertrain warranty, it shouldn't sound like it has rocks rolling around inside the engine. unless you want to take a crack at fixing it yourself, and thus voiding your warranty, be my guest. but that would be a much bigger pain in the butt to do then just having the dealership figure it out.

What dealership you got too? I would go to Lake city first cause they sponsored a car show so that doesnt mean they are good but it does give a point to them to support the community. But i need to take mine in as well. My idle is kinda rough and the car doesnt idle quiet anymore. I was at the Seattle M&G and they said it sounded like a Lub-lub lub-lub noise was coming from my car at idle. I havent really thought about it much since the car runs and drives good. I have noticed a slight decrease in performance though. I used the 3 dealer oil changes then went to RP 5w-30. Also the 10w-30 isnt gonna hurt your engine. But take it to the dealer for sure.

i normally go to toyota lake city....they are decent but their diagnosis is never right so i have to take it in 2 or 3 times and it usually takes them 2 or 3 days each time...and honestly driving around a yaris for that time is not my idea of fun

I have the same issue in my area - Northern NJ. Go 3 different times, get 3 different answers. I just wish cars can talk and tell you whats going on.

I could understand the yaris not being fun, but at least you are saving a bunch on gas

At least you get a Yaris to use, the ____ty dealers here don't even know what a courtesy car is. In Phoenix I used to get a courtesy vehicle for everything, here...they expect you to have a ride or get a taxi.

actually, dealerships are required to provide you with a courtesy car for any warranty repairs taking more then one day.

i remember back in school, reading in one of my books that it was VERY bad to switch from synthetic to regular oil! I would do some research into that!

not sure if it was bad luck but my brother switched like u did in his jeep cherroke and had the same problem!

Fight it with the deal IMO
