i think he was d!ckin ya around either that or thats a special dealership.... theres no way the dealership will fix your car under warrenty if you have aftermarket parts.... for example. in my case if it is the O2 sensor and lets just say i had an after market HEADER, the dealership would definately NOT fix it under warrenty, they would blame the faulty O2 sensor on the aftermarket header, also say my MAF sensor is bad and the O2 Sensor is also... my guess would be because my header is stock they would fix the O2 sensor under warrenty, but because i have a CAI they would not do the MAF sensor under warrenty.... thats just my guess... someone correct me if im wrong

Thats bull____, i worked at a toyota dealership, the finance guys are the biggest crooks in the dealership, they have access to pretty much everything. What the finance guy does is to sell you ____ after you buy the car to make more money, they make you buy ____ you don't even need. They will sit there for 20 mins just trying to convince you. This is what they have in their minds $$$.

It it ILLEGAL for them to "void" a warranty that does not include a clause saying they can. They can refuse service IF they can prove that your mod caused that particular problem. This is not a matter of the dealer or Toyota's policy, it is a matter of law, period. Yes, most will try to rip you off.. and honestly, most will do half-a$$ed work even if they do take it (which is why private mechanics have more business than they can handle), but you can fight it. Now, if you replace a header and the O2 goes out, yes, look for them to be skeptical, I would be. The occurences of O2's going out that early on thier own are very low. The chance of a poor install is much higher. But if you know your way around an engine compartment, you can question and challenge them into proving it.

As far as water damage, people make too much of this sometimes as well. If the engine did not hydrolock, you are fine. I have placed a vacuum line in a glass of cold water to blow carbon deposits away before on cars. A small amount of water will not hurt your engine. Now, if you submerge the filter, suck a bunch in and it comes to a screeching halt... you probably have issues

When I still had my K&N on (before the crappy mount broke) I had that same cover over mine. Worked great.

oh and on a side note.... the little filter "glove" thingy that K&N has for their CAI SUCKS! i put it on my CAI and it just got soaked with water and dirt and made the filter dirty....

btw i took the filter off and the inside of the filter and CAI piping was dry. so i dont think there was any water damage. plus if there was would the car even drive?

I would say Toyota tect friend isnt right. That makes no since for the car to run lean in safe mode. Why else would it be "safe mode".

I wouldnt trade you car in over this. It will prolle end up being something very stupid and easy to fix.

Good luck!!!

Seems like I remember several tC owners having defective o2 sensors or precats after about 15-20k, but it's been awhile since I saw that.

havent heard that but one thing for sure. 1 out of 3 of the a/f sensor on the header are cross threaded from the factory. So be ready for that. 2 of our 3 tC's were cross threaded and those sensors arnt cheap.

bump, went to the dealer today, they said it was an air fuel sensor, and they ordered it, and it should be in by either tomorrow or wednesday, so the car will be back to normal wednesday at the latest. :D

TADA! Hope that it's all good when they replace that sensor... should be GTG... they have service manual procedures to test the sensor specifically, so if they claim it's the deal, then it most likely is...

Get back on the road soon!

What they don't know can't hurt them.
