Default Import tuner magazine :tC mods and dynos

Hey guys, not sure if you guys saw it or not, but in the new Import Tuner their powerpages this month included a 04 tC, and the process of bolt ons and dyno's for each one. Heres a quick run down - if you don't get this magazine you should! Stock car with 18's only -- so number may be slightly better with stockers.

Baseline hp|tq
140.4
150.8

First mod - Don't ask me how they got it!
AEM Cold air intake
144.3
153.1
it made power throughout the whole band, no losses

second mod - dc sports exhaust
147.5
156.0
again power across the whole dyno.

last mod - DC sports race 4-1 header
156.0
163.8
Really picks up the hp from 3k rpm all the way to the redline

so overall - 15 hp and 13ft lbs from bolt ons.

Enjoy.

So if you stick to the intake and a header you still get a quiet car and a decent HP gain. Makes sense.

eh well, of course you would loose a bit of HP, all of that was made in conjunction with..meaning you think the stock muffler would yeild similar results to an aftermarket which may or may not be true. LOL we need to call them and tell them to reverse the mods one by one.

AEM Cold air intake: $236.95

dc sports exhaust: $374.40

DC sports race 4-1 header: $297.96

The thrill of creeping into 235th. place on the new car performance chart: Priceless!

Yeah no thanks I think I'll just pass on that pavement punishing 15 horsepower to save my quiet ride.

Well i just did the k & n cai, dc header, and hks axle back exhaust. Later this week i plan to do a spipe, high flow cat, and mid pipe. But i will say that you do notice a little more high end power on the highway and such, but nothing dramatic and only something you would notcie if your extremely familiar with the car. But this does lower a little of your torque at low rpms. All for the sake of a nice even power curve. The sound gets incredible loud so if you enjoy your silence leave it alone. I plan on dynoing the car after its all on so i will try to let everybody know. Things have got really bad with shipping so im behind schedule.

Some people mod their cars because its a hobby regardless if they get 15hp or not, I just like to work on the car, add parts, etc regardless if I beat everyone on the street, I didn't buy the car to race, I bought it to modify and enjoy it when I drive it.

Amen to that! Everyone should really keep that in mind before calling somebody a ricer, or anything of that nature...

I understand that, I've probably logged more hours under a car doing just that than most of you guys combined. But the kind of cars I'm willing to spend time and money on gain more than 15 hp after installing exhuast, intake and headers. I just can't justify spending that kind of money and making my car loud and unpleasant for a difference of 15 hp.

If you keep the stock muffler then it won't be loud and obnoxious. That's what I plan on doing is getting a CAI and a header. My goal is to keep it quiet for my daily driver. If I need to get in a loud car, I'll drive my mustang that wakes the dead. lol

I installed my k&n last night and i have a full cat back. I notice alot more power up top in the rpms. i can feel the difference with out a doubt. i dont have the headers yet but i can image how it will pull with them.

those parts are probably going to cost close to $1000 + installation for just 15 whp? Im starting to get discouraged.. not sure if its worth it to mod my tC. Maybe I should just stick to appearance mods. I think the exhaust alone on my camaro put on around 10-15whp...

Hmm $1000 no dont be so negative try $480 I,H and with a complete catback it should yield 25hp. Your also making illogical comparisons a camaro has a much larger engine. I can put a short ram intake on 5.8 Liter V8 and make 25hp. Intake header alone should yield 12hp with the Alphawerk header and WR, gains should be closer to 15.

4whp from the AEM CAI that everyone thinks is so great and worth for waiting for..

K&N CAI is looking better and better. double the horsepower gain & most likely cheaper.

This is ridiculious! Some people that tune should stick to there detriot power and quit trying to say that there into Rice tuning, they compare there detriot muscle to a 4 banger that would kick that @$$ in the end. Do all of us a favor!! DONT BUY OUR SPORT COMPACT CARTS IF YOUR A DETRIOT MUSCLE HEAD!!!
All you people do is _____ about them after you buy them!!!

What is illogical is trying to whip a dead horse.

Like the guy who posted that he wants to $pend hi$ ca$h on tweaked ECU; that's without even considering that without forced air, massive fuel, and free flow exhaust - it does him NFG. DUH!

OK, now suppose that he gets a clue and ends up putting $7 - $10k into his tC. That's what it will take to end up anywhere near 12lbs/HP. So, with up to $27K invested (not counting labor & time) and no warranty and inferior handling - there are over 100 models off the showroom floor that'll blow his doors off.

If you really have to have rice, then get yourself a Gen III RX-7 - while there's still a few out there. For the same $17k (car included) as a tC you can bolt on up to, maybe over, 450hp. Then there's only five cars that can touch you, but only one, the Z06, that you're likely to encounter. The $7 - $10k you would have put into the tC, you can use to buy re-man rotaries - you'll need replacements on hand.

Don't get me wrong - I like the tC - hell, I bought one - good car, good price. But I know what it ain't.

a f-in' men. 210hp is gonna actually be cost prohibitive but hey, that's what money is for. it'll be fun.
