I have the Injen CAI and i noticed today that there's some type of ticking noise like something is in the Intake being tossed around.
But it only does it sometimes. It happened during a cold start. Is that because the aluminum intake is warming from being cold?

the ticking is just the valvetrain noise being emphasized. no reason at all to worry, all CAIs do this.

 

Or it could be that it moved a little and tapped some little metal thing, IDK just my 2 cents, I have the Injen CAI too.

I have it too and yeah it makes the same exact sound during cold starts.

 

iite.. thanks for giving me the peace of mind.. tbe noise does go with the same rhythm as the valves..

 

... it's the vsv that's ticking..... it's something for warm idle control or something.. it's late.. i'm tired.. but uh...

yeah.. it's normal.... don't worry about it.

um... I had a pretty loud ticking that came and went at times coming from the piece attached to the MAF sensor. My MAF eventually died and my car wouldn't start or when it would it would run super rich and stall at 3k rpm.

 

yea i blew my MAF before becauase my battery wire hit the CAI and short circuited.. but anyways wat was that ticking sound then? wat caused it?

 

dunno. It started after i put in my Injen CAI then one day it went bad and that was it. No explination, Toyota just replaced it. I haven't had any problems with the new MAF.

 

wait so the dealer didnt refuse to give u a free MAF even wit the injen cai.. i thought they would of refuse because its not thier TRD intake..

 

put some rubber between the VSV bulb and its mounting of CAI. it should lessen the sound.. that's what i did and i hardly notice it anymore. i guess the ticking gets amplified by the metal of the intake..

 

He probably switched out his intake.

 

I experienced the same thing a month or so after I put on my AEM intake. I was freaked out the first time I heard it. I sounded like a valve but when I opened the hood I could tell it was coming from the intake. I always check Scionlife.com for help before calling my dealer. It is like 5 degrees here is Cleveland so I can understand it being something for the idler. Thanks yall!
