Installed TWM Cable and Base Bushings
I just installed the TWM cable and base bushings over the weekend. The install took me about 1 hour to complete (taking apart and reinstalling the interior took the longest) and was very straightforward. I have an Injen CAI so I did not have to remove anything from the engine bay to install the cable bushings. I had just enough room to get my arms down to reach the shift linkages. Just a word of caution: be careful when installing the cable bushings. I almost lost a cotter pin when trying to install it. Also watch the wires coming from the MAF; I ended up unplugging it so I wouldn’t pinch the wires when I was trying to get my arms by. Other than that, I found the install of both the cable and base bushings very easy.
After the install test drive:
First off, I have the TWM stage 2 SS. I would sometimes miss-shift when running through the gears before, actually having to think about slamming it into the next gear. Now I find the shifts feel way more solid and more direct. Now it shifts very smoothly and it feels like it locks into gear so much better. It’s kind of hard to describe but it does feel a lot better. Also, the shifter movement and vibration have decreased a lot too.
All in all, I find these mods to be a very nice complement to my short shifter. I’m not really sure how much the base bushings affected the shifter but I got them to I guess ‘complete’ the package. The construction of the Speed-Source base bushings look a bit better in my opinion (looks like two separate bushings sandwiched together rather than the single bushing and washer with the TWM set). But they both seem to do the job anyway.
I would definitely recommend these mods to everyone with a 5sp. Sorry there aren’t any pics, the set does come with instructions but I didn’t find them to be necessary (and they were using different cars in the pics anyway). I used Kaeon’s write-up on the Speed-Source bushings as a reference (hope he doesn’t mind).

I have to agree with you that the bushings do stiffen up the shifting. Only thing I complain about is the base bushings. The TWM ones feel like plastic.
While speedsource's bushings looks solid and heavy duty. O wells. I took off my CAI cause my arms are not that small....
