Intake sucked up water..

Default Intake sucked up water..

OK, so I have the Ingen CAI and we went through some water this afternoon and my car completely shut off. the water was up to the curbing. when we stepped out it literally covered our ankles. Didn't mean too it was raining really bad and didn't see it.

Has anyone had this happen? So far my car still wont crank. All its doing is whining when we turn it over. Do you think my motor is gone? this sucks sooooo bad. I only have 8000 miles on it.. We had to trailer it home.

ANY SUGGESTIONS??

hard to say, you could have hydrolocked your engine if it got all the way through the intake and manifold. Or you might have shorted something out. how much water do you think got sucked up?

yeah, i'd say your going to be in the market for a new engine. warranty won't cover a new engine. this is called being hydro-locked.

next time you put a cold air intake on, your should consider a bypass valve which helps prevent hydro locking.

Wow I was in the middle of a harsh post about hydrolocking the motor but caught myself because you're going to be dealing with bigger issues than me rubbing in how completely effed this situation is. gl

Pull the plugs and the fuse for the fuel pump. Then crank the car over to push the water out of the cylinders. Allow it to sit there for a bit to totally dry out and add a squirt
of Marvel Mystery Oil in each plug hole. Put it back together and fire it up. If it makes a hella lot of noises, you tore it up. If it fires up and runs normally you are probably OK.

possible bent rods, damaged valves/seats, rod bearings, crank bearings etc. No way to tell for sure unless you open it up.

wow another one, sorry to hear what happened, check with your insurance but make sure you take out your cai and put back the stock...

Yeah dude that's hydrolocking, do what engifineer said and pray that it works, if not, a new engine it is. GL.

had this happen to one of my other cars, it sucks, but I got it home took the plugs out and cranked, it spit out some water, then I let it sit for a day with the plugs out in the sun, plugged everything back in the next day and it was fine

Same thing happened to my xB.
I pulled the plugs (one had some water on the electrode), sprayed all with a little alcohol to displace the water and let the sun dry them; when I cranked the engine without plugs, the hole with the wet plug spit out a little water. I re-installed the plugs and it cranked right up. I was a little worried that the MAF was too wet, but this proved not to be the case. I drove it about a mile to the house and it blew a lot of steam out of the exhaust. I checked the oil and it was full of water (should have changed the oil prior to starting up the engine). I also changed the manual transmission lube. 10K miles later and everything seems to be just fine. Scions seem to be ____ty submarines. Good Luck with yours!

Wow man -- EXACT same thing happened to me earlier this week. Luckily i got the car to start and spit out all the water -- hopefully u will be as lucky

Thanks for all your ideas. I'm not really sure what we are going to do yet. We found a motor with 2,500 miles for less than 1000.

I think we may send it Toyota just to see what they say b/c even if we do get the new motor then the warranty is voided anyways.
I have pics of the barricade of the area they put up AFTER we went through.

THANK god my husband was driving my car and I wasn't... lol

i think this should be stickied because i thought once u hydrolock ur car ur screwed...but i guess theres one last hope or chance with something you can try

Awww, poor tC and you live in SC too! Finally some of you guys come out of the woodwork, only this one is not a good thread to have LOL. I can only remember seeing like 3 roads full of water my whole life of living there, what part of the state was it in?

I'm sorry to hear about the hydro lock condition, and not thatit makes much difference now but... the TRD Induction has a by pass valve for just such an occation.

we went to the Oglethorpe Mall in SAV, GA. DO NOT DRIVE IN FRONT AROUND GOLDEN CORRAL WHEN ITS RAINING...

you guys think insurance would cover it??

It may be possible. You may have to pay the deductible and they cover the rest but expect your rates to rise from it if you have them pay for it. You can try, it never hurts, I know there is one person on here that hydrolocked his tC got the insurance to pay for another engine and while the dealership was putting it together he either did or was planning on buying aftermarket internals for it so the dealership could put them in while they were building it since he was going F/I....so if your going F/I then that may be helpful too.
