Default Intakes on Automatics?

Is there a point? My friend has a AEM CAI on his ____ty Jetta GLS but it sounds amazing. I'm hoping to get a similar sound on my auto tc. Does anyone have a CAI on an automatic and is it worth it (i.e. added horsepower, more aggresive sounding)?

I have the K&N CAI on my auto TC and it sounds great by its self. I don't know about the power gain but I'm sure you get a little. I have the full custom exhaust on it right now with the intake and header and you can feel a difference. I plan on selling the header and intake around the end of January so if you want to hold on till then I'll give it to you cheap. Probably about 200 for everything....plus shipping.

there's no such thing as AEM now...it will be TRD. As a matter of fact, I don't think anyone on these forums owns an AEM CAI. They were always planned, but b/c they performed like Michael Jackson on a female, no one ever bought one & the idea was basically scrapped by AEM.

I think....

I have the injen SRI on my auto with the TRD exhaust. sound awesome and I don't think it sounds ricey at all.
The intake does change the sound of your exhaust too, for the better
some will poop about my wanting the TRD exhaust though, I know were they are coming from but I like the sound it has, better than the rest.

and then there is this which I am pretty pleased about:

Nothing is wrong with any of my parts. I just purchased the stage 1 turbo set up plus there S pipe and full exhaust and I wont need those 2 parts. The car hasn't even been driven more then a total of 2 months sense I bought it in December of 04.

Overall what would you guys say is the best intake to use on an automatic? To clarify, my definition of best is lowest torqe loss and some measurable HP gain. Right now I am running a Weapon-R Secret intake, and as many dyno tests have shown there is a significant loss in low end power. I think im torn between the Umnitza & Injen now. I do like the look, fitment and high-end pull of the Weapon-R but such a loss of TQ on the Auto which already lacks to the 5-speed is just disapointing and sad compared to stock. Anybody have dyno numbers of HP & TQ on an Auto? Please post!

i have Injen CAI on my auto. pulls great, hardly any low end loss. GREAT top end though. cant wait to install my AW header.

i recommend Injen, i like them better.

I decided to go with the Injen CAI w/ Hydroshield. The Umnitza will not fit with my hood lift, plus ive been convinced that the performance aspects of the Injen top the rest. Im adding a ZPI V.2 Crank pulley as well so i'll be sure to let you Automatic TC guys how these upgrades work out.

Engine mod's will net you the same power regardless of whether the car is manual or auto. There may be some power lost or gained as a result of the differences in drive train but the crankshaft HP will be the same. Go ahead and do whatever mod's you want to your A/T tC.

Is this true? I've been told differently. Sorry to dig up an old thread but I'm curious.

well... ive come to this conclusion...

for every 10whp the manual gains, the automatic gains around 8.5whp

transmission drivetrain loss is one of the big reasons why the auto supercharged tC only dynos around 170whp, while the manual dynos at almost 190whp
