no, you can fix up an auto just like a manual... besides an upgraded clutch

Why not? A properly built auto will own manuals on a 1/4 run any day.

^^^ yup....little to no lag. Throw in a good stall torque converter for the power band and your set

i drove a turbo automatic eclipse for 3 and a half years, and as fun as it was, let's just say i sold it for the much less powerful 5-speed tC i have now.

So wait? Is it or is it not a good ideal to get a supercharger for an auto................... don't tell me you guys are saying that superchargers don't work on automatics or something?

Why is this even a question? will the supercharger only make the car start up faster from zero? Because if you have more horsepower, it would make the car faster at all times right? From start...From crusing speeds....ON ramps?

The supercharger doesn't say for manuals only, last time I looked!

Superchargers and Turbochargers work great on autos. The reason for this is that at higher horsepower Torque Converter losses arnt as important, also perfect and consistant shift points are a plus. The only downside is that autos take a beating, not the gearing but the fluid filled TC. That is why it is important reinforce such parts after adding FI, mainly TC.

this thread makes my brain hurt.....

I'm not sure where this myth came from, but the s/c is *fine* for automatics. Gm has been doing it for years on the Grand Prix GTP, and other vehicles.

A well built Auto will shift *faster* than a manual, so RPM's won't drop as much, which means if you want to stay in the boost, you'd have an easier time in an auto than in a manual.

Granted, you aren't talking seconds, you're talking at most 1/4 second, but in a race (especially thew 1/4 mile), that's an eternity.

Toast why would this thread make your brain hurt? Some people in here have little to no experience with FI on an auto. We are looking for answers from more knowledgeable people on this matter.

Anova:

I understand compeltely why the orginal question was asked, someone didn't know the answer. That's why I said the thread hurt, and not topic....meaning that I have no problem with the topic at all.

It baffe;ed me because several people (Break_Away and ScionDad's posts) pointed out that the S/C and an auto play nice together.

Then 3-4 posts later, PrettyniceB rehashes the whole topic again. I'm not trying to bash on him/her or anything , but it just rubbed me the wrong way because this sort of thing happens all the time:

Person posts a legtitmate question. People answer it. Someone either doesn't understand the answers (or just doesn't bother to read them- I'm assuming the former in this case), and rather than asking for clarification, just rehashes the whole toppic all over again.

PrettyniceB, I apologize to you, because it is not my intention to throw you under the proverbial bus, I'm puzzled by how you could be confused if you had read ScionDad's posts.

I had a TRD SC on my previous car - automatic Matrix. It was a tad quicker than the stock tC, but compared to a 5-speed matrix it was a dud. Thus it got parted out and sold for a new stick tC.

So SC'd autos are way more fun than NA autos, but eventually you are going to say screw it and will buy a stick.
