Default K&N Filtration Data

Hey everyone, decided to go go browse other car forums and found some very interesting information on K&N filters and similar cotton guaze filters. Although i do understand that there must be a tradeoff to increase flow rate, such as less filtration ,i still find this a bit disturbing. If any of you guys have had any personal experiences with K&N or would like to add any new data that would be great...thanks.

Well, from what i saw, the first two are testing K&N "brand" filters but not the type we are running. the third test does actually pertain to our type of filter and the K&N style is the 2nd place finisher...

Yes but the technology is the same, with either type ,cotton mesh oil based. The only difference from the drop in is the design . Hmm i hope someone has more insight into this,

Its true, knew about this a while ago. The problem about this is how does it relate to the real world. A less restrictive filter that improve hp will allow more particles to pass through the filter. But the long term effects of these particles on the life of the engine not conclusive.

I've found in "real world" experience that the K&N filters will also come apart somewhat...Some of the fibers will sometimes get caught in the mass airflow sensor causing problems. It's not good when the filter medium won't stand up to the airflow....
