Default legality on older intake system put on newer model????

i have a 2009 scion tc and i saw on the C.A.R.B. website that there is a legal cold air intake "K&N typhoon" and it says 2005-2006...i found an adapter that would work for the MAF sensor which i could use the older intake systems..but will it still be legal? considering i'm putting it on a newer model of the car not listed on the C.A.R.B. website???

does it have the CARB legal sticker on it to pass CA's incredibly hard inspections?

CARB EOs are model/year-specific. If the sticker indicates a different year spec than the car itself, will not pass visual inspection either by smogcheck or a ref. Plus, you will get a ticket if a cop doesn't see the CARB EO sticker (that is, if you get your hood popped).

Which most cops will have you pop the hood if they need to get their tickets up...

CA blows for modding....

^^^ yup. And they will. Cali's in need of a lot of $$$ nowadays. (Where I work, there are LAPDs assigned just to wait by the corner and cite peeps for jaywalking. $120 a pop! lol.)

ahh okay thanks for the help so i guess i'm gonna have to wait for the 2009 model intakes to come out...or just get the 2006 one and hope the cop knows nothing about TC's and sees the carb sticker and just lets me go with it...hmmm its so hard to figure out..coz if i get the 2006 one then the 2009 one comes out and i get caught i will still be wasting money any route i go...

the intakes for the 07+ were never CARB approved, not even "pending". isn't the 09 is the same as the 07 & 08?

i'm pretty sure it'll work even without the adapter if you look at the pictures you can see that they use the stock airfilter box top wich has the the maf sensor on it so you would just use the top of the box and you'll be golden

ehh the k&n cai is still only listed for 05-06. yea a k&n drop in filter is carb approved
someone in another thread said that the 07+ tc accidentally got listed with the 08 xb in the trd intake?
so that still means the intakes for 07+ is not carb approved. or i am i wrong?
one thing i have noticed with that cold air with the +08 xb is that, the charcoal filter in the housing is still present. is that why the other aftermarket intakes are not carb approved/pending?

There was a fluke with the CARB EO that says the TRD cold air intake for the 2008-2009 model year Scion xB AND tC are legal, but in fact, the TRD intake is not legal with the tC, just the xB because it has an enclosed filter with the carbon trap. There was supposedly an intake like the xB's in production, but when I spoke with TRD, they said they have no plans to release a CARB legal intake for the tC. You could still get the intake anyway and print out the EO and keep it in the car and if you ever get hassled, just show them that printout. I'm not saying that's what you should do and rely on, it's just something I had thought about when researching intakes.

well thanks for the great info..it kinda sucks that rarely anything for the TC is carb approved considering it probably has the most aftermarket parts out of all the scions and considering scions were pretty much made to modify...i wonder why it has to be year specific..aren't all the engines on the TC the same? so if i put on the intake from previous years would yield the same results in terms of emissions?

thats the thing, the emissions has been changed for all 2007 cars. the engine is basically the same for the tC, but the 07 models has had some changes made. like oil jets, and different header(cat).

The MAF sensor size changed too, which created the difference of intakes for the tC. You have to have some sort of adapter on the new tC's to fit the old intakes. I've got an adapter and I have plans to purchase the ARC induction box (which is made for the 05-06) for my 07.
