Default losing 1qt every 3k oil change

07 scion - losing 1qt every 3k oil change (dino oil)

I've been doing regular oil and filter change every 3,000 miles. The used oil is a bit darker than I would like it, but there are no metal shavings present at all. I checked for leaks and don't see anything. The car otherwise is in great shape and has no other issues. It's not burning oil as far as I can tell. There is no smell, and the exhaust smoke is not blue.

I don't drive the car hard, and I let it warm up before driving. Usually drive on the highway and the car rarely sees more than 70mph.

I'm thinking it's a valve issue.
Anyone else have an oil issue with their tC?

i loose 1 quart for every 5k miles. it's normal for this motor to loose 1 quart for every 1k miles or loose 5 quarts every oil change. it's in your owners manual, so your ok. i thought by changinig to synthetic it would stop, but it's the same results.

especially considering it doesnt even take 5 qts. I hope that was a typo, losing 1 qt seems like a lot especially if it is not leaking.

i drove over 2000 miles and didnt burn a drop of oil. i would do a leak down test to further see the problem. as well as a compression check. if both come out ok then we can start to narrow it down.

okay, cars will burn some oil. no matter what. but there is a tolerable and excessive threshold. our engine takes 4.5 quarts of oil, but no matter what, when you drain your oil durring your next oil change, you will not get that much back out. so long as you check your dipstick and make sure you are between the max and min marks, you're fine.

and that is why the owners manual states, check oil every time you fuel the tank. it does seem like alot but scion knows, wich is why it's in the book.

I agree, its not normal, but it is in the owners manual. They have got a whole section on oil consumption! They put it in there to cover their *****, meaning if you blow your motor, the dealer doesnt have to warranty it. Not all scions do it. I work in a full service shop on University of Tennessee's campus so i see a lot of scions. Mine only consumes .5 qts./3K. Other than use synthetic oil and lucas oil stabilizer there is really nothing else you can do about it!

So the owner's manual says it's okay to lose 5 quarts of oil every 5000 miles?

GG. Go jump off a cliff.

My 07 doesn't lose any oil at all. Is there a problem with my engine?

you are telling me that Toyota says it is okay to drive with NO OIL. Please tell me what page it says it is okay to lose 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles and 5 quarts every 5000 miles. I really want to see this.

Relax guys, toyota was trying to make this car really fuel efficient so theymake it dump all its oil over the course 5k miles cuz as we know, oil creates fluid friction on the parts and thats bad for fuel economy LMAO!

Yes im completely kidding and dear god, if youre losing 1qt/1k mi, there is something MAJORLY WRONG! hell the family camry with 300K mi doesnt lose more than .5qt over an oil change interval.

1qt every 3k is alright but a little above whats "normal". OP please do a leakdown and compression test and also check for a sutty buildup on your intake tubing after the PCV tube hooks in. Once you gt us that info well know much more about how the engines doing.

Weezy, did you get your crankshaft balanced before removing the balancer shafts? and if so do you remember how much was it off by?

sorry for the threadjack OP, once you get the results of the comp test and leakdown as well as have some time to look in your intake pipes let us know.
