Default MAF sensor not sitting flush with intake

hey guys. i took out my maf sensor to clean it and when i went to put it back on my injen intake, the bottom of the maf sensor is not sitting flush with the intake. there's like a 1-2mm gap all around it. i remember when i took it off, the maf sensor was sitting flush with the intake. i tried wiggling it around but doesn't seem to work. any advice?

thanks in advance.

the rubber o-ring that seals the maf sensor in the slot is usually what is the problem. make sure that o-ring is seated properly (not twisted), and firmly press it down it. then tighten the screws it usually will compress into the hole.

Be sure to look at the black plastic, and not the metal flange.

yeah, and the o-ring is what is giving me problem. can't seem to get it compressed into the hole, even after tighten it down with the 2 screws. anyways, i was thinking perhaps heat would eventually loosen the o-ring a little and it'll slide down into the hole. it's not like the maf sensor is 1/4" up, it's just 1-2 mm elevated.

just keep an eye on it. Goes without saying, don't force anything into place. The MAF sensor is one you really don't want to have to replace. It's very expensive... new they're north of 160 bucks.
Even if the gap is only a mm or two, if there isn't a good seal it can trip a code or even cause the engine to automatically shut off whether you're idling or driving. So just keep that in mind. Applying a little non-direct heat to make the o-ring more plyable might work to help you get it back into the correct position.
Hope that helps.

so far it's okay. but i tried many times. can't seem to get it flushed. i could have the dealership try to put it back for me, but they may not touch it due to the aftermarket intake. but i know those guys at the dealership pretty well and they know me pretty well.

well ill leave it the way it is. it's very frustrating to get that thing lined up correctly.

Put some vassoline around the o ring and then try moving it around into place.

I was going to say lubricate the o ring and try to get it in place or you could try to heat you the intake a little.
