Make Me Faster for <$1000

Alright everybody, listen up. Make my Scion tC 2009 faster. I've got about a thousand dollars to spend, so let's hear your suggestions. I want it loud and I want it fast. Don't worry about an exhaust, already have a nice one on. Everything else is stock, minus cosmetic upgrades.

I'd rather spend the money toward new wheels or coilovers (if you dont already have some)

XIEmperorIX 07-26-2011 03:15 PM

Your not going to get much power for $1000..aside from the NOS kit which IMO is a meh option..

What mods do you already have? Personally I would put it towards some suspension upgrades.

athletefeet66 07-26-2011 03:53 PM

HAHA. why did you buy a tc if you want loud and fast?

unless you are willing to spend around 2k+ on a used turbo kit you are just going to end up being annoying and slow.

you might as well buy a running DSM for that much. it will be faster than your tc.

XIEmperorIX 07-26-2011 03:56 PM

Honestly the most "power" upgrades you can do would be pulleys, header and intake..even then you are looking at virtually minimal gains that won't make any real difference in how the car feels..I would know..I had that setup and more often than not I regretted not putting the money towards something else.

nitrous and something like a safc to get it tuned with... 75 shot and for the money you spend you will be happy

Hayseed 07-26-2011 05:33 PM

You can piece together a nitrous set up from dynotune for like $700. But again if you want loud and fast save up 3G's more and buy a used sr s13. The tc will only disappoint you.

Sorry man, not happening. Don't listen to these guys with the NOS. NOS will put a whole in your engine. You need to build your engine to handle NOS if you want to do it right, otherwise it'll blow it, whether its your first shot, or thousandth shot, it'll blow. Turbo is the way to go. However you saved up that thousand dollars, do three times over and you'll be good.

mmmpshh 07-26-2011 06:07 PM

^ lol... I love these comments. Where did you get your information? Have you run nos on your tc?

my06tc 07-26-2011 06:08 PM

people do have a point, with a grand to spend not gonna make it fast, need like another 2-3 grand for a decent turbo kit,yea ill be fast but these cars arent meant to be fast, hopefully you wer'nt thinking,u were buying the car to make it fast...

i have all bolts ons and pullies,it made a difference on how to car pulls but not a wow factor, with all the money ive spent on bolts ons i coulda had a turbo kit, even though i bought one,but not installed,

please dont make the car loud thinking its fast,

This seriously makes no logical sense at all

Im2c0oL 07-26-2011 07:47 PM

save up some more for a turbo kit, then you can add bolts on later if you want. bolts on just gonna extend your goal for turbo.

myr6goesfast 07-26-2011 09:11 PM

Put that grand in a savings... tax return comes around snatch someones turbo in the classifieds

SoulXquisite 07-26-2011 09:14 PM

Other than suspension you cant gain speed on a budget, so if you want go fast in this car save up more and do it right

exactly... especially since I ran a 75 shot on auto and stock motor for over a year then ran a 100 shot for a couple months! Was it a good idea? Prolly not, but not because it wouldnt work, just because filling up that bottle every week was getting waaay expensive. He said he wanted to go fast for under 1k, didnt say he wanted to save... im sure if thats what he wanted to do he would have saved it. He wants to go fast now... nitrous (not necessarily "NOS" lol) will be the best and maybe only option for that price range.

Spicy_McHaggiz 07-26-2011 10:47 PM

Fast is relative, with bolt on's if you think high 15's or 16's is fast, go you. Loud, you'll get a crap ton of rasp and it will sound like junk.

uhsentc 07-26-2011 11:13 PM

Weapon-R Intake Manifold = $476.99 (new)
try to pick up a used Cold Air intake = $100
Used RX-8 Throttle Body = $100
Sell your axel back = -$200
Tsudo's Header 4-2-1 + S-Pipe + Midpipe + Axel Back Deal from speed-element= $489
Tune = $200
Total = $976.

You can probably reach 180 HP with this setup.

uhsentc 07-26-2011 11:16 PM

stock is about 138HP so it's a nice 40hp gain, 30% gain!

XIEmperorIX 07-26-2011 11:59 PM

Ok..$200 to tune..but tune with what? You need some kind of engine management which would put him way over $1k

DMC0585 07-27-2011 01:12 AM

save up for a Turbo kit, going n/a on any car can be pricey and give little gains! But then again how much HP u wanna gain? if you want 20hp extra nst pullies, raceland I/h/e should do!
