try to pick up a used Cold Air intake = $100 Used RX-8 Throttle Body = $100 Sell your axel back = -$200 Tsudo's Header 4-2-1 + S-Pipe + Midpipe + Axel Back Deal from speed-element= $489 Tune = $200 Total = $976. You can probably reach 180 HP with this setup. The weapon r intake manifold is expensive and basically un-needed. Heck most turbo guys run the stock intake manifold because it works, and they would see the most gain out of it. The RX-8 throttle body hasn't proven to do anything on the tC. No one has done a dyno before and after the install to show any gains. While more air entering the combustion chamber is good in theory, a motor can only handle so much air going in before it won't help. Plus port and polishing the stock tb will gain you a bit more throttle response that any RX8 bs would gain. Can't tune this vehicle without some sort of piggy back system. This alone is quite expensive to buy, let alone install and tune. Plus a tune on an n/a tC has never yielded huge gains, even with bolt ons. Basically stick to reading the forum and not giving advice, because the post you made is full of crap. And 180 hp? No.... |
I'll be doing a retune on my car, then I'll post the after results of the RX8 TB. Put it in two months ago. It's definitely not something to run without some type of air/fuel management. So... that TB shouldn't be on that list.

Make my Scion faster for cheap.
Why? Because Racecar. |
Hate to beat a dead horse but pretty much take everybody's advise and save the money for a turbo kit. My question to you is what's your idea of fast?.... I'm from Chicago too so if your trying to keep up with the DSM's EVO's, and other imports you better save up for the turbo kit. I have all the bolt on's on my tC and yes you'll be quicker but I wouldn't classify my tC as being fast. If high 15's and low 16's in the 1/4 mile is fast to you then by all means do bolt ons. You CAN run a NOS kit on a stock engine, nothing above a 75 shot of else you'll need to do some other work which will be outside your $1,000. Also as a side note....loud and raspy is more annoying than anything so make sure you compliment your exhaust system to the upgrades you plan on doing. With a $1000 budget I would just get a Resonator welded on to your exhaust if you do plan on going the bolt ons route.....take the advise of the guys on here that have already done what your thinking about doing.....it saves you time, $, and aggrevation down the line.

there are people with those mods have reached a good 170 horse power on the wheels.

Fast is relative, with bolt on's if you think high 15's or 16's is fast, go you. Loud, you'll get a crap ton of rasp and it will sound like junk.

Gut + Sound deafening foam and a nice clothe overlay for your back, weight reduction has to be the cheapest mods to go fast. At Irwindale stock gutted Tc's with intakes, exhausts were running as fast as F/I tc's. For under 1k, to see signifigant speed increase gut gut gut. Otherwise a $1000 budget is a nice way to start yourself off with some N/A mods (as stated above) until you can get some more cash with slightly noticeable improvements.

While weight reduction goes a long way, it's hard to say that their as fast as those same cars with f/i. I could go into a mathematical formula as to how much power it takes to move X amount of weight and how stripping a car doesn't equate, but thats too much care.

And if u decode to go with the turbo kit, please make sure u can at least drive the car. dont be like this jerk-off riding around here in this turboed civic like he has something only to be dusted by my scion because he cant drive the car and keeps redlining when trying to take off or snatch a gear. just a heads up, dont be a ricer. ;)

get an ebay turbo kit ( godspeed ) i hurd good thing bout tat kit :-/

$1000 won't be enough to do anything. Probably get you a 2.5-3.0 inch exhaust but that will only make you noisy with no performance. The TC can be made to perform but means you invest money, blood, sweat, tears. If your serious then save more money and learn more about what you want meaning All-motor or Forced Induction. All-motor is expensive with little gains compared to Forced-Induction which will offer more performance and power.
|
Like said before.... 1000 will not get you much if you are paying for everything with no discounts and what not.
For example.... An intake... 150 - 200 brand new if you buy if off a site. Probably end up costing around 250... That's a quarter of your budget for a simple intake. The tC is a 4 cylinder. The stock intake was decently well designed so it doesn't really free up a HUGE amount of power when you slap an intake on. If you're like tcPete, JimmyJun, and BaddudetC3 and have connections, not to mention the ability to work on your own car, then the cost is decreased. If you end up paying for labor.... it's going to be expensive. Some shops will charge 50+ an hour for labor. Just to give you an idea. |
Check out my ebay thread if you are wanting to go N/A and spend under a grand.I managed to do i/h/e,swaybars, strut tower bar and a motor mount for WAAY under a thousand dollars.
I did change out my axle back for something quieter though. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=200725 If you want to go really fast...I would recommend putting that 1k towards a turbo kit. Even with I/H/E and N/A cams, the turbo kit will far outweigh anything else you could do for straight line speed and reliability. |
ha i made a similar thread to this in another tc forum somewhere... best way to spend 1k on upgrades.
i'll just go ahead and make a list... will be over 1k altogether so you'd have to choose -intake -header -exhaust -lightweight pulleys: crank, alternator, water pump -heat shield for intake, possible ram air set ups -exhaust wrap for your header -lowering springs -strut bar -unichip, cost around 450-500 bucks... i would advise you to reconsider before you start spending all this money though. i basically had the same plan to spend a grand, but over time i only ended up getting an intake. it wasnt worth getting all the other mods... for me at least. just saying, think it through. |
Strut bars do nothing but look cool fyi.

Get a NOS Sniper kit
WOT controller bottle warmer and a wideband i made 220whp on my first stock tc with a full exhaust, cai, pulley, and a 80 shot tuned to 11.8 afr. learn how to use nitrous, and you'll be good to go. i went through about 40 bottles, and the motor still had almost perfect compression. do some research and you'll be more than happy with 1,000. |
