Yeah so one i was hanging out with one of my friends and what i noticed was she put her car in to the L gear and when she was driving she was shifting up to gear two, gear 3, and so forth. does that do anything to the car at all like fast wise?

Nope, but it does no good whatsoever. If she just put it to the floor it would do the same thing, which is run it nearly to redline before shifting. Like said above, she should have just bought a manual.
Yeah, it just limits what gear your car will shift into, sending you to redline then you shift up again. Honestly though, like they said, just stepping on the gas hard will be more efficient and faster.

Like people have already stated; You...I mean 'your friend' ...should have bought a MT.
