Default motor mounts or ETD?

Hey so I've been thinking lately 'bout stiffening up the engine a bit. I'm thinking I'll either go with NonStopTuning's Engine Torque Damper by DME, or with a nice set of motor mounts. Which do you all recommend?

I love the way the ETD looks in the bay and I've heard that NST's ETD does not cause as much annoying vibrations as the Ingalls one does. However I've heard that motor mounts are more effective and cheaper, the only thing is I cant seem to find any for the tC. The only ones I've been able to find are the ones by NurSpec and they do not list a price:

http://www.nurspec.com/ListCategorie...=7556&CatImg=0

any advice would be much appreciated :-)

the ETD is the easy way out. you have to drop your subframe to put in a the rear motor mount and not many people wanna do this thus the ETD becomes a more attractive solution to them. me im gonna be dropping my subframe soon to put in a flywheel and clutch so thats why im moving to the motor mounts now.

you can by my DME EDT if you want ill sell it for 40 bucks cheaper then what NST is selling .. ive had it on my car for a month. im looking into getting motor mounts now. pm me if you are interested

^^ i'd agree there... i would consider an ETD as a "band-aid".. that also adds to engine bling.

motor mounts would be the ideal way to get the most of what you're looking for.

I have both an Ingalls and Energy Suspension poly inserts. I haven't installed the poly mounts yet but I re-did my Stiffy following these instructions:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...301120#2301120

It's MUCH better now, amazing how well it works when installed corretly. I will say the instructions from Ingalls are minimal and leave out several key concepts necessary for first-times to succeed, but when done correctly it does work wonders. I hope to get my mounts in this coming weekend (except the trans mount which will wait for the clutch to go) and I could provide some feedback afterwards.

BTW I got the Bushings from CarCandy Motorsports.

well let me ask you this whats your experience with working on cars? i will say its not for the faint of heart or novice by any stretch of the imagination.

lets just say dropping the whole subframe is not something you would do just to install this motor mount.. you would wanna be putting several things in at one time such as a front sway bar and a new flywheel and clutch becuase you might never wanna do it again any time soon and that's for someone who knows what they are doing lol

its not something im looking forward to doing and ive swapped out several engines before in my past cars

btw there are people have done it and posted pics and experiences and what not just use the search button

well I'd have to say the hardest project I've had to do thus far was installing my lowering springs. Also I've decided after doing a little research and talking to some people that I'll save up more money and install a front sway, engine mounts and subframe bushings all at once to so that I won't have to drop my subframe more than once... that is until me clutch goes :-(

I think I should be able to handle it if I allocate a week thus leaving a margin for setbacks and the learning curve. I also know a few experienced guys whom I can call on should the situation require some expertise...

okay well I had been set on mounts untill about five minutes ago when my research lead me to a handfull of people complaining about vibration from the mounts... Does anyone have experience they could share with me.

I'm not too concerned about noise as I am about comfort. So I feel i would rather put up with a noisy ETD than rattely mounts...hmm...

I'm planning on doing mine (xcept the rear trans mount) this weekend. Want another joy ride when I'm done?

Motor mounts are better. But it requires a lil more work. But the ETD does work but of course it all depends what your trying to do. If you staying N/A or going no more than 300ish whp id say that its fine. But if ya really want something nice get an LSD that would be much better.

An update based on my expierences yesterday:

The "front" mount is not difficult to remove from the car, removing the factory bushing is tougher than I expected, and getting the polyurethane one installed is REQUIRES a press of some sort.

We were creative and used a bench vise.

I also destroyed my first insert, fortunately one of my buddies also has a set he isn't planning to use until spring so he let me "borrow" his.

How did I destroy it? I didn't deburr the metal portion of the mount, and there was a sharp edge that cut a nice big wedge out of the polyurethane while it was being pressed in. I also forgot my camera, so no picutres.

Comparisons between my drivetrain vibration before and after, it's a significant increease in vibrations at idle, I would say worse than my Stiffy ever was. Also, as Drew (Batman) can attest to, I had managed to get the Stiffy installed to have minimal vibrations at all, they are all back now, and probably worse than they were with the Ingalls, albeit none of the clattering that was there before, running the air at idle is out of the question right now.

I only did the front mount, I'm wonering if the other two being still rubber is allowing the vibrations. I may try to tackle the upper mount next week and see if that cuts it down any.

I guess I should also add that the Stiffy is still on the car, I may remove it sometime this week and see how (if?) the vibrations change without it.

On the plus side, it launches like a bat out of hel* now!

thanks for the update Sean, I'll have to see on tuesday what the vibrations are like, but based on your written review as of now I'm definatly leaning toward a ETD as a nice comprimise between performance and comfort :-/

I haven't done anything further with mine; the ETD is still on and I've still only got the one mount installed. Been too busy with shows/working on friends cars the last two months, and the autoX is starting back up in Detroit soon so I'll likely leave it as is until the end of October.

It's actually liveable as long as it isn't idling with the A/C running, I barely use the A/C because of it and with it colling down now I won't need it much mroe anyways.

i'll say motor mounts is the way to go, my DME damper broke and i race my car at the track and during a burnout i heard a loud noise from the engine bay and then the rattling noise stopped, i unscrewed the ETD off the mounts and it came off in 2 pieces...looks like the screw that connects both snapped right off. i've also heard bad reviews from the weapon R damper. the only one i'd probably go with now is the Ingalls because a friend has had his for over 2 years and he is pushing over 400whp and it's still there without a problem, all you need is some washers and dynamat or whatever you use and problem solved.
