Ok - i know people are going to have to ask more questions but ill try to give you as much info as possible.

I noticed that i have a gear noise (sounds like maybe from the s/c). When I am moving and have the car in N - you cant hear the noise.

When speeding up the noise either goes away or I just cant hear it anymore (im not sure which). i know that if im going 25-35mph at a steady pace i can hear it.

If im starting to have a bearing problem the noise would get louder when you hit the gas right?

Any ideas guys?

 

Is it a knocking?

 

nah - its not like a sound like that. I had engine tap in my truck so I know what that sounds like ... its like pins dropping very slightly - then goes away when i speed up. Im thinking its nothing but im just wondering if anybody has some 411.

 

I have the same prolblem but i know what its from. When I installed my lightweight flywheel, i didnt put my cross memeber and undercarraige back right the way it was. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it (cost me $300) and now its gone.

 

^ did it sound like a very small chain dragging on the ground while moving? ...thats the best way i can describe it.

 

does it speed up slightly as you depress the pedal?

I had the same problem and was supercharged. never found out what it was

 

I mean...its not loud. Its just a pain to hear and my warranty runs out in 4k miles.

 

I would say go too the dealer so they can check it out. I had a similar problem sounded like a faint helicopter type sound. Which eventually turned into a knock and bearing failure. Covered under warrantee luckily...

 

just wondering...is this an engine noise you guys are discussing or a transmission noise?

 

^ im going to go to the dealer next month for that airbag issue - ill ask then - but all i know is that I have a manual trans and when its in gear i hear the sound. when its not - i dont.

 

sounds like what happened with my honda and it's input shaft bearing

 

I would deff be sayin bearing ...but.... i hear it sometimes - im wondering if its just the shield bent up causing a rattle sound .... a bearing problem would be constant right?

Hmm then it might not be a bearing. Because my noise was constant. Whether I was in or out of gear I heard that annoying noise. So it may be transmission related.

 

^^ either trans related or its just a shield thats bent up - it shifts fine and you hear the sound only at certain times at certain rpms ...and its not constant through the same gears ... so im hoping when i bring it in in a few weeks for the airbags they will just tap the shield down and say its fixed.

 

A few people said that this might be a first sign of my clutch going. If you put a few pins in a tire and you heard them clang every rotation ...thats what im hearing.
