Default o2 sensor antifouler question?

Why if you have a after market header and stock S-pipe do you need to do the antifowler fix on the s-pipe to remove the CEL? But if you have a aftermarket header and a aftermarket s-pipe say a ZPI or CC spipe how come you will not get a CEL and not have to perform the antifowler fix? I know this is a repost x 1000 but i couldnt find any usful info.

thanks

It all depends on the sensor location and the amount of air it reads I guess. As far as I know the s-pipes still need the antifowler fix. I'm sure someone will correct me If I'm wrong....

whether you have a factor or oem s-pipe, you will still need either an antifouler or O2 simulator. The code comes from the removal of the first cat in the stock exhaust manifold. It doesn't care what s-pipe it's in. A larger s-pipe may change the signal slightly since the air flowing through it would be a little slower, but it alone will not be enough to make the car think the cat is still functioning.

also please remember that just because you swap out your header and your Check Engine Light comes on, that its for your Header.

If you have access to an OBD2 scanner/reader, it will be helpfull. I have my own. Reseting the ECU will get rid of the CEL but it is stored in memory in your ecu, after x amount of cycles your ecu will check again.

You only need it on the s-pipe not the header

That's correct, and NEVER put an antifouler on the header. That one needs to read the way it does

Look for that and ask for Spark Plug Antifouler's ar your autoparts store, they all should have em. They are very cheap and very effective.

And the function of it...

Hopefully that helps.

-You need to take one of the anti foulers and drill out its center using a 1/2 bit, that will increase its hole size and allow your stock o2 sensor to fit.
-screw the drilled spark plug anti-fouler on top of the original
-install like shown in picture.

But what is the actual function of the antifowler in this situation? what is it doing to the 02 sensor to not throw a CEL?

The o2 normally sits in the direct path of the exhaust inside the pipe. The antifowler pushes it back away from the pipe so it doesn't read the increased exhaust flow your new header creates, so it tricks it into thinking the exhaust is moving as slow as it was before. I know there is a more technical way of explaining this but this is how I understand it to be.

well it's not really flow it's monitoring. It's checking the oxygen content in the exhaust gas. But the reasoning behind the antifouler is the same, move o2 sensor away from the direct exhaust stream.

One question - I did the antifouler trick about a week ago, and after about 400 miles I got a CEL. What can I do to get rid of it? I dont have an OBD2 scanner/reader to clear the ECU either. Can anyone help?

Go to autozone they will scan the code for free. You may have damaged the 02 during install. Just disconnect the negative on the battery to reset the ecu and see if it comes back. Remember you will lose radio presets and have to reset the windows if you do.

no i definitly put it on the s-pipe. I didn't know I could so easily damage the 02 sensor when i was installing it? I don't have any tools what so ever to get the negative battery terminal disconnected because I am visiting a friend in CA. I'll take it down to an autozone later to have them give me a socket real quick to undo it.

thanks for the info this will be helpful when installing my spipe and header...one question tho... so when and if you throw a CEL when the anti fouler is in then just reset the ecu or what... how much does a new o2 sensor cost for this...
