but if you want to do it with the obx lsd it will still be cheaper than a trd lsd

obx lsd + labor = $800-1000

trd lsd alone $1,200 + labor $400 = $1,600

you are still 600-800 dollars under the regular budget

well, when we were installing the axles, the left axle has a ring in the tip that goes to the differential to lock it in place, because the diff was so new it didnt want to go in, we had to play with it for a while and grease it in order for it to go in. now that the tranny and diff are very well lubed its walk in the park to put them on and take them off.

p.s
it was the lack of lubrication (new item) that had us struggling with it going in. NO problems getting them out what so ever

Figured it's been a couple months... how's she holding up and how great are the improvements? I'm leaning more toward a locking differential like the OS Giken, but I'm still interested in hearing results especially when people were frowning upon OBX.

I've been using the Quiafe LSD for a couple of months now and while I love it in turns and rain, it doesn't fully lock while drag racing on a straight way. It just feels like it lets loose if I floor it too much 1st through 3rd gear.

It's still a heck of a lot better than none that's for sure, it's more manageable to regulate the gas in order not to spin. Two months ago during the cold season I did a 60mph pull with an STI and I spun on 3rd all the way to 80mph, even with the LSD it doesn't make up for cold tires.

Glad to see someone else make a ballsy move jimmyjun, mine came from the factory with a broken belleville washer. Sounds like youve had better luck than me seeing as its held up this long. Ill be posting a bulletproofing guide (teardown, repair and reassembly) for this particular diff in the coming weeks. It seems to be a good unit overall, just with some shoddy finishing machine work and some hit or miss luck on the washers. I went ahead and cryo treated the whole assembly, chamfered the housings, and replaced the washers and bolts. I have yet to see how she'll hold up, mine goes in early june.

I hope you post this up, I am chomping at the bit to install the obx lsd in my trans while its sitting on my garage floor....I just know that I will want to give it a good "once over" before doing it. A DIY would help me feel MUCH better about doing it.

Just ordered my OBX LSD and it should be here by Friday. I'm shooting for 500whp with my setup as well. It's good news hearing that the OBX is holding 500whp!

Jimmy,
its been a year and a half since your install. Im glad to hear in your last post its holding up fine. Ive been doing heavy researching and im seeing about a 60/40 split of good-bad reviews on this diff. How many miles have you put on it so far?
I just ordered a turbo kit for my tc and im looking to make around 270-280 hp. This looks like a great bang for the buck, however I am curious about longevity. I drive about 60 miles a day, and im looking to keep this car for about another two years.
