Default OK. Which exhaust sounds the most identical to the...G35!?

I'm planning on buying a new exhaust with an Injen CAI setup. I've been looking around the forums and I've seen no one debating which exhaust sounds the most identical to the G35 / Z350 sound (because honestly, who doesn't love it when a G35 whips pass them?). And yes, I know, our 4-bangers will not give out the same sound as either V-6's.

So what exhaust will give out the sound most identical to the G35/350z (Since I believe both run the same dual-exhaust pipes)? I've heard the TRD exhaust sounds most like it but others say the Precision Muffler does as well. HKS, Blitz, and all the others are a little too loud for my taste for I prefer my tC with the well-tuned sound. Nothing too racey. Hence the G35.

Additionally, I drive an Automatic so I'll rarely hit 3,000+ RPM's so the high-end raspiness shouldn't be a problem for me if the situation presents itself. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Vince.

I would suggust HKS because it sound rich and smooth. People who own scion tc has been asking me where I got my HKS because they love the way it sounds. It doesn't make any high pitch sound. If you want the sound just like G35.... I don't know if it sound like the HKS Hi-Power because I never hear any G35 performance exhaust system before.

The G35 is dual. Also, I don't want to spend a lot on a catback. I just want the sound, that's all; performance is on the bottom of the list.

megan cat back is only 300 bucks...thats cheaper than the HKS axle back!!! and im pretty sure that the G35 only has one muffler...dual inlet and outlet, but you can change that...and its cheap

It has dual rear exits. I don't plan on "modding" the exhaust pipe itself, or I'd be spending tons just on the welding (The g35 has a Y-piping), customizing, bumper-drilling, etc. I think I'm going to just stick to an axle-back regardless. I want it to be carb-legal as well.

just b/c g35 is dual doesnt mean you have to run duals.
just take one muffler and weld it on axle back.
making a short piece of piping from axle back shouldn't
cost that much.

im with you on that, i was just thinking that the other day! i just sold my trd because the noise was to deep and just one toned (trust me i know that makes no sense). im just like you i heard stock g-35 the other day and it started from a stop with timid acceleration, but that gurgly growl just gets me off! (my fiance is making fun of me for that). but does anyone a lttle more experienced with exhausts no if using a stock g-35 OR 350z muffler will sound similar on our cars?
or do i need those extra 2 cylinders to make that gurgle and slight growl? i would want the stock muffler system, nothing aftermarket, because i like the more quiet sound. just that hint is what i want. did you get all that santa?

Wait, so the TRD doesn't sound like the G35? I'm confused.

Have either of you heard the PM axleback? kcautotc, since you said the G35 is quieter than the TRD, would the Precision Muffler sound more similar?

you can make your exhaust sound good in its own way, but unfortunately it'll never sound like a G35. That sound is pretty unique to the VQ35DE motor. You may be able to get another 6 cylinder to sound similar (my v6 accord with magnaflow exhaust sounds G35ish). But the true sound of an exhaust is determined by the engine, not just mufflers. Case in point, try putting a flowmaster on a civic....I'll tell you right now it won't sound even remotely like a small block ford or chevy with the same setup.

Yes. Sad, but true. That is why I'd like to buy the sound that resembles it the most, even though I know there is a difference between the closest-sounding and the actual exhaust.

yea that precision sounds good, but nothing like it. and also the engine noise is also playing a pretty big factor. all the better sounding exhausts for the tc are a real deep punchy sound, where as the g-35 is like, uh, more hallow? i dont know how to describe it but you know what i mean since youve heard. but what i really want to know, i know this has been discussed before, does any one think the 350z muffler would sound good on the tc? I know where i can get one for about 100 shipped, but im also wondering about fitment..
im going to pm stylis or if anyone else who has, oh hell, ill start a new thread=).

$275.00 PrecisionMuffler.com axle back tC

Sorry I couldn't resist. :D

So now we all want to sound like the 350z. Mmm,well that is a delima and a good challenge for me. Let me see what I can do about that, but I would need to know if this would be for tCs with a header or without. I ask that because I know that some people will buy one set-up add a header and be stuck with a raspy axle back. Let me know.

heh heh, sorry people. I am not able to do another PM sale for a while. I wil try to set-up a sound like the G-35. The down side is that it would probably be single exhaust only. I know that the dual exhaust set-up that we have sounds like the G-35 already, but that set-up is very pricey. Let me see what I can do and get back to all of you on this.
