Plasma Ignition and Chip
I have a 07 tC (AUTO) with Injen Intake, Megan Drift Spec Cat-back exhaust, and Lightwieght Crank Pulley. I have been thinking about putting in a new ignition system, and chipping my car. It would be greatly appreciated if you could help me out with choosing the correct ignition system and chip to get the most horsepower possible. I have a budget of 1000 dollars, give or take 100 dollars. Recommendations?
PS-I am not set on the chip and ignition system. But I want to get more power with my budget.
THanks in Advance!

using the correct terms is making ourselves look good at your expense???? It is a piggy back, not a chip. It is only called a chip from people that dont know the difference, ( and it is a huge diference).
The car has an excellent coil on plug ignition system as well. Dont mess with it. It would be a waste of money. Coil on plug and denso iridium plugs are top notch.

the smart money would be getting a suspension package from www.trdsparks.com
either trd springs, struts and sway, or hotchkis srpings and sways with trd struts.
you pretty much have all the bolt-on performance n/a upgrades that actually do anything for the tc with the exception of a header/s-pipe.
so get the suspensionand learn get confidence to take the corners fast.

Take the $1000, paypal it to divine_suffering@hotmail.com (Me) and I'll send you an e-mail about weight reduction and how it can make your car faster.

NICE!
or you can send it to ADRVocaldesign@yahoo.com and he can help you build a sounsystem.. the 1k is a service charge. lol

first off you can chip our ecm. if you could the car would most likely run worse. if you could chip it then like a honda every boosted TC would be chipped instead of emanage. second you cant do plug wires for our coil on plug set up...so idn where your lookin. unless its a ground kit which does absolutly nuttin except empty your wallet. so like a coulple people said either suspension package on trd sparks or a header with and antifouler..thats all i can say dont fall for that ebay crap
and toyota is pushin all they can outa that car with the amount of air it can get and what not so theres nuttin else you can do but bolt ons or F/I..
and your not the first to ask about the chip...its an 07 chips were so pre 03-04

ok thank you very much.
I understand my terminology may not always be correct, but it would be appreciated if you put your corrections in a nicer way. You know? To help me further my knowledge of cars, rather than pick at my incorrect terminology so you can look cooler on a forum. Like I am some nuisance to your life. However I do appreciate when people help me further my knowledge of the tC an cars in general. So Thanks.
I already have H&R Sport...or are they H&R Race...
Whatever they are called, they are 2.00 F / 1.6 R. Which struts, sway bars and other miscellaneous suspension items would you recommend i pair these my springs with?
Would one recommend Stage 2 Stoptechs as well? Or are they not much bang for the buck?
I have glanced at some different headers for the tC, but I am not sure of how much power I will get from a header....
On another note I have been looking at a Downpipe for awhile now- I have heard mixed reviews on the power increases seen from the downpipe. So once and for all, What are the increases shown?...(if any) Is it worth it for the money?
PS- I Have cat-back exhaust on already...if that makes any difference.
On a Side Note...Recently I raced someone with a Manual tC, he had intake and ignition system. He said his ignition system gave him about 9whp. Do you believe he is full of it? (Beat me by almost a car for 3 races. off the line and rolling from 20mph. )
THANK YOU for all the help in Advance. ITs way dope to be able to get help from your peers across the country.

your friend is full of it. i met a guy with an automatic 05 tc, he said it had a super chip in it and it dyno'ed 210 whp. i asked if he meant supercharger, he said, no super chip at that point, i made up an excuse to walk away.
now look, enginfineer is an engine frickin eer, and he literally knows about as much about our car as the guys who built it do. so yeah, ignition system is a waste of money.
you lost to your friend because he has a manual tc, and you have an automatic. manual tc's are already about a second faster through the quarter mile than an auto. and auto has to go forced induction to beat a manual tc, or maybe race a manual tc who doesn't know how to drive stick.
now, as for headers, they add performance ,but with your exhaust, they will also case irritating rasp. by downpipe, i assume you mean s-pipe, is great because the s-pipe is the most restrictive part of our exhaust system.
stoptech stage 2 kits are great. just don't take the bed-in procedure lightly, you really have to make sure you properly do it.

well.. I am not quite up there with the guys who built the car.. but I try to keep up the best I can
I have just picked up enough over the years to know what is good and bad as far as this stuff is concerned.
And squalls post was in no way rude, condescending, etc. He simply stated that you cant chip it, but you can buy a piggyback for it.
Brake kits help reduce overheating of the brakes, which is good if you do a lot of road racing on a fast road track. But the stopping power on this car is very good and well exceeds the traction we have, so you are into abs well before you exceed the brakes power. If you want more initial bite, just get some good brake pads and invest in some tires.
Best $1000 or so you can spend on this car is tires, springs and sway(s). More noticeable by far than any $1000 power mod.

I got the tires covered. Im rollling on 255/35/18 yokohamas, and they stick!
Yeah downpipe is specfically for connecting turbo to exhaust right, s-pipe is header to exhaust.
Maybe if i put a spipe on headers and throw in a high flow catylic converter? or maybe just a magnaflow resonator? You think it would still rasp? Or do you think the high flow cataly converter or the resonator will sacrifice power gained with header and s-pipe?
IF you think stated upgrades will work well Which header and s-pipe would you recommend to me?
Which specific suspension ugrade swould you recommend. There are so many to choose from, and it is nearly impossible to choose from one or the other, especially on the internet.
Do you think i could fit in shocks, header, and s-pipe into a 1000 dollar budget? if I do installation myself?
With header and s-pipe would i be able to feel the gains? Or would it just show on the track?
PS-That guy is Not my friend. Just some guy a raced, I guess just some LIAR i raced. lol

AND....
Would I see more power out of my intake if converted to short ram. I am very unclear on said concept ( short ram). Would anyone be so helpful as to fill me in please?
THanks again for all your help.

You are seeing no power from your intake (well.. MAYBE 1-2 hp tops, nothing noticeable) and a short ram just sucks in hot air as opposed to the cooler air of a cai or even stock. Short ram serves no purpose other than to reduce some resistance in the intake system (And with how our car flows, you dont need the change). But, even the stock intake draws cool air from the fender. So a short ram will just look/sound neat, the cai will look/sound neat and produce power you wont feel, and both will heat soak a million times worse than stock every time you let it idle for a minute due to the metal tube.
Basically, if you search around, all the bolt ons, intake through exhaust, will get you about 15 hp at part of the power band. So you will feel it a little, but overall your car wont be that much faster than stock. If you run the 1/4 mile all the time, you will notice a difference in times, but you wont get that "wow" feeling on the street you are expecting. That is why we mention suspension so much. You will notice a night and day difference for the same amount of cash.
Now I am not bashing on the bolt ons, but unless you care about tenths of a second on a track, you arent getting much for you money. Now you will have the looks and sound of the new parts, which is nice as well. So it depends on what you want.
Personally, I like enjoying my handling improvements on the street as well as in autox. Money very well spent!

Then which suspension upgrades would you recommend to pair with my H&R's?
Another thought came to mind...
If I throw a piggyback on (like the greddy emanage ultimate) and some larger injectors(higher flowing) would that not add some kick to my whip? The purpose of the piggyback in this case would be to control fuel expenditure (as my tC is my everyday driver)... Correct me if i'm wrong, with that piggyback system it is possible to control amount of fuel flow, so I could switch from saving fuel mode, to smoke em mode. Right?
...
I can't seem to grasp how a piggyback ecu tuned properly will not show me fair amounts of power, especially in an automatic. It seems to me like the shift points on the auto tC are off which greatly diminshes power squeezed out.
Just kind of stream of consciousness... I have no expertise to back my claims up, they are solely educated guesses. Thanks again.

shift points for the automatic are determined by the ecu itself during driving and how much throttle is applied.
the car understands that if you want to go faster, and mash your gas pedal to the floor... it'll know that and act accordingly.

also since your N/A, theres no reason to change your injectors. Your stock injectors will flow more than enough cc's to handle whatever bolt ons you throw at it. Unless you start going with headwork, Port and polish, cams etc you wont need larger injectors
The car will deliver enough fuel for what it needs to do. If you add larger injectors, it will eventually catch up and change pulse, since it will be running rich right after you start it up. The ECU looks at fuel mix from the system, so no matter how big your injectors are, it will compensate based on the amount of air that is coming in. If it is rich, it will trim the fuel back into its preset configuration. If you add so much boost that the stock injectors cant keep up, then you need larger ones. But even on low/moderate amounts of boost your stock injectors should be fine. Forcing more fuel in (which takes the fuel management system and tuning) does nothing if you dont have more air, other than running the car rich, which wont help power (it will hurt it if anything). The only way to get that much more air is boost. On an NA motor people will reduce the fuel (lean it out) to make it produce more power, not add more fuel. However, you have to be VERY careful with that, since you can easilly cause engine damage running lean.
I would realisticaly expect (without sleeving, boring, doing a lot of custom head work, cam work, raising compression etc) about 25 - 30whp out of every bolt on and electronic mod you can make. And that is a lot of money to spend on 25 hp. There is someone out there that is running higher compression, head work, bolt ons , etc that is hitting about 200 whp I think, but you are talking about tearing the engine apart then. My personal opinion (and this is just my estimate) is that with all the internal work you can do, including, but not limited to raising compression, removing balance shafts, possibly sleeving and boring to about 2.6L (if possible.. there is word that is the limit), custom head/cam work, all bolt ons, engine management, etc, that you will see about 215 whp out of this car short of boosting it. It will be interesting a few years down the road to see if that happens, but who knows. If someone can destroke it a bit and raise redline significantly that number may go up. But that is all speculation right now.
As far as shifting, hold the pedal to the floor and it will run through the band before shifting.
To go with your springs, get a hotchkis front and rear sway set, or a trd rear sway if you want it a little less harsh on the street. The sways make a BIG difference in handling due to less body roll and a better oversteer/understeer balance.
