Default problems with my auto shifter

hey guys im hoping that anyone out there has experienced this problem or atleast give me an idea what to look for or do.

i have an 05 tc auto and my d and 3 are not working. some time ago i was driving with my friend andi started to notice that my d on the dash was flashing and suddenly turned off. so i just figued that the led had burn and kept driving. as i continued i dropped it on 3 to overpass the other car and i noticed that i didnt feel the kick of the tranny and the light wasnt on either! so we went back to my friends house and my car didnt wanna start. me and my uncle took a look at it and the neutral switch wasnt working to well. so we bypassed it so it would be a temporary fix. i replaced the led on the dash but still will not light up and the d and 3 is still not working. all the other shifts like 2 1 work and light up but i figure that since the d and 3 are probably seperated by a switch of some sort. so my question is do you guys think its maybe like a relay or a switch inside the shifter or the shifter itself??? any ideas would help bunch!!!!

Do you manually shift your auto if you it will be your tranny auto is not made to be sport shifted unless the tranny is built to due so

Sounds like and engine problem...... not an electrical problem.

well i dont think its an engine problem because it had no history of that. ive had it for over a year and it never had a problem when downshifting on it. also my automatic tranny is not been modified so that cant be it either

sounds like there might not be that much tension on the shift cable that attaches to the auto transmission casing. That cable can loosen, stretch over time and needs to be readjusted. this could be the problem of why neutral isn't being seen by the computer (no readout on the dash). Check that tension first and proper operation.

well its not the neutral that is not recognising its the d and 3 that is my problem. the other shifts both the car and the tranny are working fine.

okay I'm a little confused here. If you leave the car in D does it shift fine through all the gears? or is right now the light on the dash the only problem?

If the neutral switch "wasn't working to well" then try replacing that, although I can't think of that actually affecting the cars ability to shift once its started moving.

well the thing about that when me and my uncle were looking at how the shifter was assembled the neutral switch was located inside the shifter itself. also the reason why i think their in connection is because my car wasnt turning on the same day i had the shift problem. so to answer your response.... my problem is that the d and 3 dont activate. i see that you have a auto tc. so when you shift to drive it runs and the light on the dash is on. when you shift to the left the 3 light comes on and you have the feel like its on "overdrive". well on my tc if i have it on drive the light doesnt show and if i shift it to 3 its like if im still on d, but if i down shift to 2 then it does respond... you kinda get what im sayin bro?

I understand what you're saying. lol although D is our overdrive gear, but anyway..so when you switch it into 3rd the RPM's don't go up as if you down shifted?

Also I still want to know - when you are in D does it go through all the gears or does it stay in 2nd?

BTW you really shouldn't be manually shifting your auto like that. The lower gears are meant to give you that extra *oomph* if you are going up a steep hill or something
