the most common pully is a crank pully. aftermarket ones are alot lighter than the stock pully, and this makes the engine work less which frees up some power. some pullies are also underdriven which decreased the amount of power going to the belt driven accessories to free up even more power.

NST makes an overdrive alternator pully which when used in conjunction with thier underdriven crank pully, brings the alternator back to stcok performance. they also make a lightweight water pump pulley to further reduce the rotational mass which frees up more power.

Except I don't think the weight of pulleys not attatched to the crank will make any difference power wise (i.e. a lightweight water pump pulley). It's not rotational mass for the engine, is it? The crank pulley is, since it is in essence adding to the weight of the crank when it is bolted on.

It is rotational mass cause it has belt drag in it. Remember the engine is still moving those other pulleys too.

But that still makes no sense. The only way it could cause the belt to "drag" more than normal is if it was bigger, causing the belt to be tighter

I seriously don't think it could possibly do anything for power. I think they just sell the water pump pulley for looks (even though they mention it's lighter).

Actually since u change the crank pulley you have to buy another belt (smaller) and that makes it haver the same tension as the OEM. So yes, it is there for a reason, a reason to be so hardcore as to shed pounds from every posible place.

Hehe, well, besides being hardcore and losing like 1 pound from the front end, the water pump pulley doesn't add any other functionality you got me there soros!

Which companies make crank pulleys for the tC?

I've seen ZPI:

I've also seen Agency Power:

There is:

NST

Also..doesnt replacing the pulley on your AC make it work less, effectivly making it not get as cool?

No.

The underdrive pulley just spins the belt at a slower speed... 20% slower.

So if I'm cruising at 3000 rpm, the belts are turning just as if I were cruising at 2400 rpm.

I have zero negative effects from the underdrive install. In fact, it made me wish I could do a flywheel tomorrow.

Hmm.. I guess I'm wrong.. pulley's are fairly easy to install correct? just need a 2nd person to hold the belt etc right?

NST, www.nonstoptuning.com makes the most variety of pulleys, best prices, best service.

They have underdrive crank pulleys and accessory pulleys for the n/a and turbo guys
http://www.nonstoptuning.com/pKitToySciTC.htm

And they have stock sized crank pulleys and supercharger pulleys for the TRD guys
http://www.nonstoptuning.com/pKitToySciTCscd.htm

I give a big thumbs up to them
