Default question about HKS exhaust

ok i did do a search, actualy i did quite a few of them. i was wondering if it was true that the HKS exhaust with a cold air intake, a header would yield little to no rasp? also becaus i have the injen intake and im leaning towards the DC header (to many complaints about the alphaworks (i was origionally goin for that one)) i was wondering if anyone could post up a sound clip, or email me the sound clip. of that set up. if someone could do that i would be greatly appriciative.

thanks in advance,

davedavetc

I have the HKS exhaust w/K&N and full catback 2.5 inch. The full catback has no resenator or catalyic converter. It has no rasp. Although I will be putting on my AW header and CC s-pipe in the next few weeks hopefully. I will make a video and post it up for everyone. HKS is the only exhaust that will not produce rasp for most setups.

I believe the cause is because HKS was made for both NA and Turbo applications which means it can handle the extra amount of air that the header puts out. Thus results in little to no rasp with the HKS exhaust.

Ill be waiting for your "OMG so much rasp" post with that setup. No cat or resonator will be really bad. I hope for your sake it isnt too bad but I have some rasp with the AW header, CC s-pipe and stock exhaust. I cant imagine what it will be like with no cat or res.

I am only adding a AW header and s-pipe. I already know what it sounds like without cat or res. I've drived on it for 3k miles w/ no rasp.

I'd bet 10 bucks on rasp.... but we'll see... I swear I've seen a post with sound clips of a guy with HKS/Injen/DC sports and it was bumblebee h.e. Double L's.

speaking of which.......im ready to try something from another thread. im considering seperating the axleback piping and placing the springs in the middle then bolting it back together, thuss giving it a gap between the two pipes hopefully getting rid of some rasp......might sound loud though...but to me loud is better than rasp

I'm not plagued. I/H/E and... No Rasp. Just got to get the right setup.

Taek Runs Injen/DC Sports/HKS... and posted vids long ago... but they are no more... wwe should bug him to repost the vids... I really disliked the sound... although he digs it.

Thats nice to hear that you're setup doesn't have rasp. Do you have s-pipe? Is your midpipe stock? So at least we know one setup works.

I'm not 100% sure how my setup is going to sound but I have high hopes for the HKS. We'll see I guess. I'm just hoping you're wrong. This is the full specs of what I will have:

Alphawerks Header
Creative Compacts 2.5inch Mandrel Bent Aluminized S-pipe
Creative Compacts 2.5inch Mandrel Bent Aluminized Mid-pipe without Resonator or Cat.
HKS Hi-Power 2.36inch with a 120mm tip exhaust.
K&N Cold Air Intake

So since the HKS is the bottleneck it will be interesting to see what happens. I know for a fact it will be LOUD. I haven't had any problems with my current setup. I'll do a before and after. The only way I'm going to be able to install this stuff is if my S-pipe gets here to WSU so I can bring it home with me for Christmas break and install it. I already got the AW header just waiting for the S-pipe! I'm leaving this Friday to head back to Seattle so hope my s-pipe gets here soon!

I'm sure it'll sound great with a CAI... but the header is the weak link for rasp... you gotta post some sound of the HKS with Intake AND Headers... Taeks sounded pretty raspy back in the day...

I'm not running an spipe... but I doubt that would make any difference with rasp... removing the second cat (running "Catback") probably would up the rasp a bit, but We'd just have to see.

I may pop a megan s-pipe on eventually, so I'll post another link... but really don't think it'll give me that much more hp...

of course u dont have any rasp with just an intake and exhaust......the headers is the tricky part cause once that cat is goneee all hell breaks loose...my setup is injen CAI/greddy exaust/alphawerks headers and its raspy as hell at peak hp rpms
