Default s-pipe question

everyone's saying that the stock s-pipe is very restrictive, and needs to be replaced to release maximum power on a header and exhaust. does it really make a difference if the s-pipe is mandrel bent or not? does mandrel bent mean that the pipe will have the same diameter across each bent? that would make non-mandrel bent have a smaller diameter at the bends. let's say that i get a muffler place around me to make an s-pipe for me. if i get 2.5" diameter non mandrel bent and the bends are 2.25", would that really make that much of a difference? it's still wider than stock, and only at the few bends does it get slightly smaller. i'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to get a non mandrel bent s-pipe from a place around me or just getting one from zpi or whoever else is gonna be releasing them. wouldn't the custom non-mandrel bent s-pipe be less than $100-but is it worth it?

i dont think there is much of a size difference between crush bent and mandrel bent. the big factor is that a mandrel bent is smooth all the way through the pipe and will not create turbulance which slows down exhaust gases. Crush bends will have little ridges that adds restriction. The key to a good exhaust is to get the hot gases out as fast as possible. Hope that helps

keeping the exhaust velocity up is very important when regarding bends and mandrel/crush bending.

replacing the stock s-pipe with a crush bent larger unit is a waste of money.

If you are going crush bent I doubt you realize any gains. You also need to look at pipe placement in relaion to the bottom of the S-pipe.

It took us a long time to develop a pipe that did not increase the heat of the oil in the pan. I agree that a Muffler shop could throw you something togtherand it might be great, but it might not be. I am all about someone saving buck just make sure it does not cost you a lot more down the road.

Plus, you wouldn't be buying our parts!!!!!!!

J/K good luck either way.

zpi-do u have s-pipes in stock at this time? ur right, i'd probably rather get an s-pipe that i know will give me some gains rather than chance it on random muffler shop. also, if the mandrel bent is definitely better, i'd rather go with that.
