Default Scion TC oil change

Hi i was wondering if anyone could give me a detailed instruction on how to do an oil change. Ive done an oil change before in Auto class in high school but ive forgotten. so far all I remember is 1.drain oil 2. replace filter 3. put oil. 4. check oil levels. Am i missing any step? will i need to keep the engine running for step4.check oil levels? i know that the oil expands in heat so how do i check the oil level? do i need to let it cool down? do i need to check it while its running?

no don't check while it is running because it will show as low bc it is sending it through the engine.

put the car safely on jackstands...warm the car up to operating temp.....then shut the car off......take out the drain plug let it drain for about 5-10 min until its compltetly stop dripping.......clean the area nice and good.......put the plug back in.......take out the oil filter.......clean that area....put the new filter in.....now fill it up with oil..turn the car on to make sure theres no leaks for a few mins.....recheck the oil level and your god to go

it is always good to put some oil in the new oil filter before installing it (3/4 full is ok) and put some oil in ur finger and rub it on the oil filter rubber gasket.
