Default Scion Tc weak transmission???

Ok I have a friend who has an 05 scion Tc that he has had since it was new. Now he isn't the most gentle person on a car and shifts pretty hard, but he has been through 5 transmissions since he got the car, Just wondering if the Tc tranny is really that weak or is my friend just an idiot?

i don't want to judge your friend, but toyota is known for over-engineering their cars, meaning that they don't break down under normal use.

ur friend is an idiot, there should be no reason to go thru 5 trannys since 05. i could understand 1 or maybe 2 if he trashed it but 5????????? does ur friend know about the clutch? thats not a dead pedal.

5 is absurd.....he must be doing something wrong.....but i have thought that the tranny feels kind of finicky, or weak....now i know toyota is known for good quality......mine doesnt give me any trouble but just the shifting feels kind of rigid and rough compared to a nissan tranny..

...anyways, i have faith in toyota i'm sure it will last but does anyone else feel this way?.

Yeah thats what I was thinking, The car is pretty beefy so he was thinking it couldnt handle the horse power but it is only pushing about 250-260 so I think he just takes it to the track to much lol. I was just making sure this isn't a normal problem

I know of someone that has had problems with the 05 MY transmissions and had his replaced twice early on, but it seems Toyota addresses the problem when the 2006 MY rolled off the line; five seems a little excessive. A few people here are putting well over 450 ft/lbs of torque through the transmission without any issues, so yes, they are slightly over-engineered.

Wow, 5 Tranny's. Thats got to be some kind of record. LOL! I would suggest that your buddy gets lessons on how to drive a manual car. I dont beleive the tranny's are bad, maybe he is just burning out the clutch. The clutch, will usually go bad before the transmission does.

No he uses stage 5 clutch systems from center force its the trannys the last one we pulled had 4th gear in about 30 pieces Im pretty sure it is just because he slams it into gear all the time

Ah, so he is still using the same clutch from all the other tranny instances. Its got to be the way he drives it then. Suggest that your buddy takes it easy on the car, and it will be good to him. Otherwise he might keep having this problem. Also, does he burnout everytime he gets a green light, or streetrace alot? I do from time to time, but the more you give your engine/tranny the worse it will get. Hope he has better luck with the new tranny.

Well he takes it to the track pretty much once a week in the spring and summer and he gives it hell, the drag slicks he puts on probably dont help his situation. The last one he got has held up pretty well of course it is winter now so no track time lol

OK... that was information you needed to share earlier. Is he boosted? If not, his clutch may have more clamping force than needed.

the first 2 yeah, but money isn't an issue for him so it isn't a big deal. I mainly wanted to know if I started putting some power in the car if I was going to start eating trannys cause i couldn't afford it.

I'm glad he wasted his money on 5 trannys, stupid to go thru 5 of them.
