Default Shimmy

There was a discussion awhile back on why my 05 tc would shimmy at around 60 - 75 mph. The wheels were scuffed a bit and one even had a bend in it. I had all that fixed and it still shimmied. I even had the wheels balanced at a race shop for high speed balance. I finally found the cause over the weekend. It was time to do the brakes and upon inspection, I found my right front caliper had a small fluid leak. Removing the caliper and then going after the slide pins, I found the pins had completely seized in place. After trying for about 2 hours to get the pins out, I used a torch, penetrating fluids, hammers, chisels, and these things wouldn't budge. I finally broke down and bought a new caliper bracket. I greased the pins up real good so they hopefully don't seize again. Anyway, taking it out for a test drive, I found that the shimmy was gone, so I believe it was because the pins were seized. Just thought I'd share this in case someone else was having troubles.

Nice post. Ya, if the caliper is locked in place, it'll hit an anything-less-than-perfect rotor and cause vibration at speed.
