hey i just installed my doc I SS and just finished the cable bushings just now. everything seems fine i can get it into every gear ok .
i read that u are not sapossed to use the washers with the new bushings but it feels like its kinda loose like theres a little play.
is this normal or what should i do?

 

A little play is what you need so they dont bind up.

I've started making the exposed portion of the bushings about ten-thousandths thinner (for .020" thinner overall). The thicker bushings made shifting more difficult when very cold.

 

is it over excessive play or just a bit?

 

I'm making them shorter vertically, taking the amount of freespace between the retaining pin and the top of the bushing from nothing to between 15 and 20 thousandths. The fitment inside the cable end is still the same, undersized by 2 thousandths. So there's no lateral play, there's just a bit over a fingernail's play in the vertical.
