Default Short throw shifter?

I have read on this forum that installing a short throw would be a good move. Alot of people here say that the stock shifter is sloppy, etc. I always thought the the transition was very smooth, and that's all I ever read in reviews about the TC. Why do you guys recommend to install a short throw? I would like pros, and cons of both. Also, I see alot of people saying not to install the TRD short throw. Why is this, and if not the TRD one, then could I get some recommendations?

I wouldn't recommend the TRD shifter only because it doesn't change it THAT much. It still feels like stock to me. I have the Perrin short shifter and it is A LOT tighter and the throws are immensely shorter. I've felt a few different short shifters and Perrin is the best IMO, tight and short throws. The height stays about the same.

Once you drive any short-throw it's hard to go back to regular. But... if you never do change it, you'll never know the difference The only cons for a short throw is that it can change the angle in some cars to be uncomfortable, depending on what you like. Oh, and yea, the height will be the same, but it can definitely be hacked off

What do you mean "change the angle in some cars to be uncomfortable"? Uncomfortable when I shift? Or the "ride quality" of my car? I would definitely cut it a few inches if I was to get one. I love the leather TRD shift ****. I would probably replace the stock one with that one.

I have the TWM shifter and I love it. It feels is a lot better Then stock. It has a tighter feel. Works great. It feels more like a shifter a sports car would have.

Sorry, that was worded weird - now, I don't have a tC, so feel free to disregard what I say. For the short shifter in my Paseo, neutral now sits closer to the head unit/dash than it did before. So my current 4th gear is located about where my neutral used to be, lol. It basically shifted the entire stick further away from me, which was weird... but I've gotten used to it and couldn't live without it now. I can honestly say though, that I doubt you'd have that problem, it was just a weird thing to notice when I did it.

the TWM is quite nice. it lowers the upper shaft (the part you grab to shift) a little further than i like.

the TRD is nice as well. it shortens up the throw but, it keeps the upper shaft leghth.

i too am runnin the TWM...love it, sits low like i wanted and the shifts are short and tight. if the TRD short throw on the tC is anything like that of the Xb...i would say go for TWM. 125.00 shipped from their website.

How much to put one in, roughly? Is it an easy install or is it something that needs to be done professionally? Never had one, so this is new to me.....

I have the B&M and love it. It lowered the height about 1/2" and the throw is much tighter. Took about 1 hour (I took my time) to install. Nice workmanship and now after about 3000 miles, no regrets.

Good luck,

p.s. it was about $100 delivered.

Default The "adjustable" Perrin Short Shifter?

Hey, is that this one?
http://www.namotorsports.net/detail..../PNPTP-INR-200
Product code: PNPTP-INR-200
That's adjustable, right? both for throw "length" and ****/shaft height, right?

So your height is the same, 'cause that's what you or your installer set it to, right?

er... and you have the tC?

(I'm just trying to make sure, 'cause I think I'm going to get that one.)

Ive had the creative compacts short shifter for a few days now and it is great! I was gonna go with twm but CC came out with a much better deal. They are pretty much the exact same thing in height reduction and throw. IMO go with Creative Compacts Shortshifter

Thanks for the advice everyone. Keep it coming please. I'm not going to do too many things to my car, but the few mods that I make, I want it to be the best possible quality/purchase.

i'm thinking about getting a trd short shifter, as that is the only one i'd consider for warranty purposes. i was wondering, from those that have them installed, how much shorter are they, how much shorter is the throw, and overall how well do you like it?

the TRD one does not change the height of the ****. The throw...there's details around the forums, and www.trdusa.com has this to say "Bolts on to stock mounting points, shortens throws up to 20%, and includes the TRD leather shift ****." It and the B&M shorten the throw about the same, while the TWM and Creative Compacts ones are about even with each other (reportedly), but they're both much shorter throws than either the TRD and the B&M. Also physically much shorter.

...that's all said without having seen or used a TRD one in person, but from just reading forums.

Yes, I have the tC shifter. It's actually the same shifter for all three models. Perrin did a test fit with their xA/xB shifter in my car to see if it would fit and it does. The shifter height doesn't change much (I prefer it that way) but the throws are shorter and tighter than another shifter out there. It makes the TRD feel like stock.

Thanks for the info malina!

So the leading candidate for me right now is the Perrin adjustable short shifter (adjustable for height and for throw (probably related to each other on that, I'm guessing)):
http://www.perrinperformance.com/Pro...rt_Shifter.htm
Their tech department just wrote back to me saying that, "You can place it at stock height to as much as two inches lower than stock." So it can't go quite as low as the TWM/Creative Compacts ones, but that's just fine to me.

Now I'm excited! I'll just have to find someone to install it for me...
