simple cai questions i couldnt find.
alrighty i did some searching, and i have a few questions that i couldnt find. i live in wisconsin and of course it snows. but im looking into getting a trd cai. i have already gone through the cel stage with the stupid header, so i took it off and put the oem manifold back on, its all beter now, but i dont want to deal with a cel anymore. am i going to be alright getting the trd intake and not worrying to much about cel's? i know not to install it and rev the beans out of it because the maf will freak out and also to handle it with care but i really dont want to spend $350 on something i really want and have it just give me headaches. and info would be great.
TRD=Toyota Racing Development. Do you honestly think Toyota would make an intake that will throw a CEL? Your answer is simple, and has been discussed indirectly already. The TRD intake will not throw a CEL. And if you "rev the beans out of it", nothing will happen. The MAF won't "freak out" and you'll be just fine. And what does snow have to do with it? The intake will sit just behind the headlight, and snow will not ingest into the cavity in which the intake sits. And you'd have to drive into a lake for it to really get wet.
There are only 3 known intakes that throw CEL's. Fujita, Raceland, and any ebay intake. Why? Because the opening around the MAF is bigger then stock and the MAF detects far too much air going through. Thats the only reason an intake throws a CEL. You will be fine with TRD.

thankyou, i was just looking and found someone who had a problem with the trd intakes and cel's, i just didnt want to go and spend all the money and then have to worry about if the maf is shot or always having a mil light on.
just to addon to Spicy's comments, I believe TRD CAI has a bypass valve anyway in case you're worried about suckin water through the intake. I run a weapon-r short ram with Megan headers. no CEL for 2000+ miles now. (Intake has been on for 3 years at least now, filter cleaned once a year near end of summer).
PS. I also live in Wisconsin, so I feel how you would worry about snow / sleet / salt in winter. lol

I live across the Cheddar Curtain in Illinois.
In the past, I used an Injen RD intake because it was convertible, and because it was well-rated. I was very happy with it. I did NOT have to remove the front bumper to install it, like the directions said. During the winter and spring, I ran it short, and in the summer, it ran the cold air
Do NOT drive the car with a cold air intake through deep water. I was caught in a downpour and started sucking water driving on the freeway.
The was was also a race car. Never threw a CEL racing.
You removed the O2 sensor when you installed the header. That probably did it.
