At what mileage should i do my first spark plug change?

OEM plugs are typically good for 100k. And when you go to change... stick with OEM plugs. You'd be hard pressed to find anything better (truthfully).

 

what sort of self maintenance, other than oil, obviously, should i be looking at if im pre-100k?

 

no probably not unless you are experiencing rough idle or poor acceleration....

 

You should be able to find that info either in your manual or get a listing from the dealer. I honestly don't know off hand.

 

For an 08 my book doesn't even suggest changing the coolant until 100k and suggests changing the spark plugs ate 120k. For all the other mileages it just suggest oil change, rotate tires, inspect brakes and other suspension stuff.

Yep, that's right, says the same in my '06 manual.

 

toyota also recommends a 30k, 60k, and 90k service tune up on all of their cars

 

Yea where they change the oil, rotate the tires, and check bolts for over $200. Waste of money
