Default srt-4 sound

Well, i was driving next to a higly modded st-4 today and boy does it sound sweet, loud a** BOV, well i know the BOV sound comes from the Turbo, but is there anyway or any muffler that can provide the snap and crackel sound after decelleration? In another words, would a scion speed turbo with the right exhaust gimme this sound? or is this just a domestic car thing?

its partially caused by the lack of the srt's mufflers.

mine pops once you let off the gas at high rpm... sounds pretty sick too. FYI the SRT-4 has no muffler as well...

the computers are also tricked to dump more fuel out of the factory to get that unique sound....im surrounded by these cars everyday and the tc does share the same size engine as they do so i am sure we can get close to the sound.....we will find out when my turbo kit arrives from zpi!!

wrong, the only turboed car that comes stock with a BOV that I can think of right now is the EVO. But dont get all excited its made out of cheap plastic that wont hold at higher levels of boost.

wouldnt any turbo car require some sort of blow off valve? Just because it doesnt make the noise doesnt mean that it isnt there

Actually you're wrong. Pretty much every turbo car on the market comes from the factory with a blowoff valve including the SRT-4, EVO, WRX, GTI, etc. And yes, most factory BOVs are made out of inexpensive plastic and are routed in a recirculation format which doesn't provide that loud wooosh that everyone associateds with aftermarket blowoff valves. So those not familiar with turbo systems can't hear it, therefor assuming it isn't there. If you look around under the hood though, it is.

The type of blow off valve that makes the wooosh sound is an open atmosphere blow off valve. (which actually cause the car to run rich between shifts) Stock turbo setups use a recirculating blow off valve.

no i am not wrong

Now, regarding the SRT-4 blow off valve, the stock blow off valve is built into the turbocharger manifold and is very quiet, and hard to see in the engine bay. That’s why some SRT-4 owners who have never owned a turbocharged vehicle before, who expect to hear a loud whish between shifts or don’t see a blow off valve may at first think their car doesn’t have a blow off valve. The factory has done a great job at minimizing the BOV “whoosh” noise by designing an air intake system that’s very quiet.

thank you.

you are making it sound like that a BOV/bypass thing is an accessory. It is not. it is a crucial part of how a turbo system works
