Default Still got that clunking noise when I shift.. Anyone else?

Okay so.. When I release the clutch while in 1st gear, I hear this clunk noise. I have all new motor mounts (4 total) and everything else is nice and tight as far as I know. I have had this problem from day one and it is just getting worse. I have read another post and found other people are experiencing the same problems.. I am ready to solve this problem!

It maybe be a bad cv joint or a problem in the differential (I hope not). I will keep doing more research.. If anyone has heard of this and knows a fix, please let me know..

+1.
1st through 3rd clunks for me.
When our clutch is engaging and disengaging, I have found a noticeable clunk even at a complete stop. You're not the only one though, that's in a deep research. Toyota tech's have called it 'normal operation'. Strength in numbers on a situation like this when it just involves odd sounds, will definitely help to get some attention on this issue.
Unfortunately, threads on our transmission issues disappear into history with only a couple responses.

id say its pretty normal

In the process of our clutch engaging/disengaging, one of the moving parts has to be faulty/designed improperly. Someone here has done at least every attempt at eliminating this noise but it still remains. Synchros, mounts, fluids, etd, bushings, etc.

Dang! I was beginning to think I was the only one.. ha ha

Well here is what I got. Our cars make that noise because of the "backlash" in our differentials. So, as it would seem, some of us have more backlash then others possibly due to excessive wear, improper fluid changing intervals, and improper adjustment from the factory.

So yes it is normal and some cars have it worse than others.

So what now right? Well, we do have options!

First I highly recommend changing your gear oil no matter how low your mileage is. (I gotta a story about that!)

Second, consider upgrading your rear motor mount (I bought a brand new one and filled in the voids with urethane, so now I don't have all that vibration and cabin noise like those other people who installed the energy suspension one.) That made a big difference but noise is still there, but not as frequent.

Third, if it really bothers you that much! You gotta take it to a trust worthy transmission shop to have them adjust the backlash and while they got it apart, you might as well tell them to install a lightweight flywheel and an lsd.

Good luck to all!

I decided to live with the noise for now. I have Mobile synthetic gear oil in my diff. I wondered if Royal Purple might clear up that noise but since Red123 used Redline Oil and still has the noise then I guess heck with it!! I'll bet the new body style Tc will not have any of these issues.. ha ha, But I guess we'll see....

yeah man i have redline, you have mobile.. just made our shifting feel more smoother, but clunk noise not really. Im gonna have my LSD, clutch, light flywheel, speedsource poly rear scheduled to be installed 2 weeks from now. im not too optimistic about the clunk noise to disappear after the install but we shall see. ...peace

some partial updates....just got the car back two days ago...they were not able to install the rear mount coz i guess the poly mounts from speedsource needs some shaving or something....anyways....clunking noise is still there but not as bad as before, im gonna do more observations.

the shop used motylgear 75w90 for the tranny fluid and man...it seems like it made a huge difference compared to the redline mt-90 that i used before.. i dont know could be combination of the new clutch, flywheel and lsd. but the shifting feel is totally different...i like it!

I took mine to the dealership and ended up getting about 7 bearings replaced and a new 5th gear all under warranty. The cause of the noise was the bearings were out of spec. So if your still under warranty take it to the dealer ship.
