is this a smart thing to do? can this affect anything in a way that might cause damage?...was thinking of doing the same thing...a lot of piping for the air to go thru to get to the filter

only if you drive when it rains, other that that no, you'll notice quicker response in 2nd and 3rd gear

It's just similar to what an SRI would do, allows more air into the TB down the line.

not sure wat you mean by that but the filter is still there. all that is, is an air baffle reduces noise and aids in cooler air. if any it is less likely to get water. it only goes about an inch into the fender but hey thats an inch to close to water....not harmful at all and sounds damn good. WRX guess do it ("air box mod") quick, free, easy

So why wouldn't the tC come like this then? There is less piping for it to travel and w/o it comes better throttle reponse. I don't get it....

that pipe is so that it gets cooler air from that fender area...

So instead of pulling the cooler air from the fender well like the hose is supposed to do, you're pulling warm engine bay air? Good call.

The better response is totally in your head. I promise you. If you really want a better response, try removing the charcoal filter in the top of the airbox (yes, there's a primary filter in the bottom and a secondary charcoal one in the top). That's actually restricting air.

OR just go CAI and get the best of both worlds But yes, that short tube is so the car could pull cooler air from the fender area and give it "like cai" properties, however the opening in that thing is really small so its easy to see why its restrictive none the less.

Removing the charcoal filter is illegal in CA, but for everybody else it's okay right? I still want to be able to pass inspection?

How do you remove it by the way? Or do you have to mutilate it to get rid of it?

LOL, everyone's so hilarious. The pipe is a silencer. It also restricts air. Notice how when you take the pipe out it's much louder. I did the same thing.

^^Any benefit in your opinion? I can see that it reduces some bending in the pipe...

technically yes... that filter is what makes intakes CARB legal.

and you would have to "mutilate" it to remove it...

lol that sucks. I would've removed it otherwise. Especially since it serves no purpose for me.

So what exactly does removing this pipe do? Any gains? Change in sound?
