Tc sticks in first
Recently while driving my car will stick in first gear when I try to shift as though I have not depressed the clutch. Eventually it let's go and I can move in to second but it's freaking me out. I'm going to take it in tomorrow but does anyone know what the problem is? Slave cylinder maybe? I'm hoping to god it's not the syncros in the tranny because that'd suck.
Help!
Thanks

do you have a short shifter?
i have a Megan short shifter, and noticed this happening every once and a while after i put it in.
only happens when i move forward slightly and let it rev down on its own while still in gear at very low speeds, never happens when accelerating normally.
i have 55k miles on stock tranny fluid, i think a change might help

i knew before i bought the megan SS that it wouldnt be the best quality, it has a little free play, something the oem shifter had 0 of, so it could be a megan ss problem. it really doesnt bother me since it happens to me like once a month, even less now that i know when it happens, so no biggie
ill see after i change the tranny fluid to see if it gets rid of the problem

Thanks for the responses. I actually posted that from my iPhone while at an autocross event. I do have a short shifter (the B&M) and after reading chicotuner's post, I tried rolling in first then letting the rpms drop, then clutch down and shift, and it stuck. So that sounds like the culprit. I'm going to replace my fluids tomorrow to see if it fixes it.
Thanks again for the responses.
Also, it never acted up during the autox, so that's good.
[edit]The B&M short has a bit of play too. When I get some time, and it's not so cold, I'm going to pull out the console again and see if I cant tighten that down.

Whiskey, please let us know what the shop says.
I'll be making a trip for service myself, as I have the same issue at 40K.
OEM other than I'm running Redline ML90.
IMO, I'm betting it's syncros ... Oh, WTF is with reverse, if it's has a syncro any idea why it has to be double clutched so often?

what year and mileage is your tC?
anyway, i had a problem last year with my car grinding 3rd gear first thing int he morning on a cold day. switched to synthetic mobil1 gear oil in the end of winter early spring, and it hasn't come back yet.
also, my car almost spits out 1st gear under hard acceleration sometimes.

the double clutching is normal, it even says it in the owner's manual, something like "if you have trouble engaging reverse, shift to neutral, release the clutch, press the clutch back in and try again. should go in."
or to do this faster, before going to reverse, shift to 1st gear or any other gear really quick, to help align the synchros. like going from 4th to reverse is a pretty fluid motion.
^yeah, my first gear pops it self out when accelerating hard sometimes, something else i just blamed on my cheap megan SS, its so weird almost like it reads my mind and pops out just as im pulling into 2nd, lol
and WhiskeyDrnkr, glad my post helped! let us know how it goes!
