Default Throttle Body

What size is the oem throttle body? Has anyone found any aftermarket ones that are available ex. bbk, holley, edelbrock, and str? I have been searching the only one I have found so far was an oversized 60mm tb. I want either a 62mm or 65mm. I had a civic with a 1.5Lnonvtec motor with i/e/h and I put a 62mm it screamed afterwords. Any one have any ideas what a good size to go would be for n/a setup? I leaning towards either the 62 or 65mm(more so to 65mm).

I would think the 60 would do great on this 2.4...

but not very experienced with TB's...

Just give the tC more time to get more parts made for it...

I measured our throttle bodys they are 55mm. So a 62mm would do great when its available.

why not take it to a performance shop and have it bored out with a new valve added? should be in the 250-350 range in price

b/c when I change the tb I will also by-pass the heater. When you buy aftermarket ones most of them will not have the place for the heater it will be solid. I just don't like bored tb. I prefer built ones not bored ones.

i put a bored TB on my escort zx2 and it cleaned up the power band very nicely, plus added some awesome throttle response!

does increasing TB size reduce gas mileage??

Do you have to redo anything on the ECU??

or, does it just allow for more airflow??

Only if you stay in the pedal. My honda civic I had got 37-38 best mpg stock. I put cai/ 4-2-1 headers/2.5 race exhaust/ ex transmission (lower gearing) 62mm tb (compared to 55mm stock). I got 44 a few times I 43 most of the time. And thats with lower gearing. It just allows the engine to breathe easier. Just don't go too big. I belive 62 mm on the tc would do great. Noting needs to be done with the ecu. If you have i/h/e/tb. then you might want to chip it b/c It should sqeeze some more power out when dyno tuned properly.

Built means the company builds it from scratch all new parts used. Bore means they take your used one and bore it. They build a new butterfly for it.

the tc only has a 55mm throttle body?!

my 2.0 ivtec comes with a 62.5 mm throttle body stock

This means that with more air flow....ALOT of power can be had (esp since it's a 2.4) for just a bolt on. 65mm would definitely be ideal for a 2.4 n/a motor.

Sciontcperformance.com has a 60mm throttle body for just $295 with core exchange.

Dyno, what is that? That is the problem with a lot of people, esp at the begining of a new car. Everyone wants to make a quick buck and turns out the products with no claims to the gains! I wish they would start backing up there products with a tested dyno sheet and comments from people who have bought the product and also had it dyno'd. How hard can it be to slap on a part and take a couple second run on the dyno? Not very.

It's not that they haven't provided us a dyno, it is just that they didn't show us seperate gains per item they added to the car. Combined is nice for a goal approach, but are we going to drop another $260 with core exchange on a TB if it only up'd the HP/TQ a 3points? Not likely.

I'm not affiliated with Scion tC Performance. I am just a fellow Scion Lifer who was giving the man some info based on a question he asked.

After reviewing the dyno sheets they provided I thought that the gains were reletively modest (23 WHP/ 20 TQ) considering they replaced the intake, TB and full exhaust. I was expecting to see somewhat more of a gain but that's just me. I agree with apexjr that they need to show dynos of before and after the TB.

But based on what they give

Without TB

With TB

Difference = 1.42 HP/0.96 TQ = not worth $295!!!

tb is too small. Someone needs to actually make a 65mm for it. I had the 62mm on a 1.5 non vtec in the civic. My friend has a type r and has 67mm on his. The type r (integra) has a 1.8 engine in it. Stock tb size for it is 62.5. So being a 2.4L which is pretty big for a 4-cylinder I belive just changing the tb would help it breath a lot better. When a company actually makes a 65mm I will buy it and dyno. I am pretty certain there would be a significant gain with just a tb. Does anyone know what size the celica gts tb is? whould it bolt to tc? does it have electronic throttle?

may be a dumb question, but what is involved in installing a new tb? Is it a bolt-on with similar difficulty as intakes or headers to install?

its about the same. I belive our tb's only have four bolts, electrical connector, and two small coolant lines.

I'd be interested to see the dyno numbers. Problem is finding someone who makes one... could you have a machine shop custom fab one?
