I never had any leaks and I drive it hard, I have 63K miles on my car, but have had my tranny replaced twice, just picked up my car from the dealer this morning and it feels so much nicer, I added the Royal Purple trans. fluid and it smooth it out even more. In case you are wondering why 2 trannies, the first grinded into fith and the second grinded into 3rd. Both trannies lasted me about 30K miles each.

Yup, 23,451 miles and I and It's time to replace the clutch, how do I know??

today, I was moved into 4th gear and pressed the gas about 3/4 of the way down and the RPM's went crazy but I didn't go anywhere!...I was a bit disturbed to say the least! looks like Im gonna have to look into some tranny upgrades.

so cancel's project Turbo...and

so begins the journey...

I've got an auto 33K and mine started misbehaving yesterday. The gears don't catch right away. It revs as if in neutral then catches. Checked the fluid levels and they were fine. What's my problem?

If you drive normally without any clutch mistakes your clutch can last FOREVER... bad clutch within 25k miles??? seems like someone can not drive....

dont clutch it when you REV, dont do half ___ shifting, dont clutch too early while your still gasing it, dont hold the clutch half way and gas it hard (meaning stop gasing faster then releasing clutch), dont engine break (most people do it but i dont; i rather replace brakes then clutch because i can do it myself and its cheaper. Toyotas are known for soft brakes so its a good idea to get stronger brakes anyway) <--- just stop doin those things and your clutch will last as long as your engine.

I have an automatic so it has nothing to do with me shifting because I can't. But sometimes I do engine break in hard breaking situations.

I took it to the dealer, they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it but they know it's not acting right, so they're just going to replace it. They already had to replace my cat converter. What's up with this car or is I just mine?

On my Tc, sometimes out of the blue, (I do know how to drive stick) but when i shift to 2nd it would grind, and I would have to restep on the clutch and stick it back in.

Also another trouble I am having is, when i want to accelerate fast and shift, I have a hard time shifting it at once, and have to take my time slowly because when I try to shift, the tranny will not allow the shifter to shift into gear, and feels like its hitting some sort of lock or wall and then I have to rev it a little to allow it to shift into gear.

Thank you for reading this and maybe you can help me a little.
Oh another thing, I did change my tranny fluid to syn fluid (MT 90 redline), but I am second guessing myself if I put enough. Would not putting enough, cause problems, and what sort, its been awhile since I changed it, and doesnt seem like it would be that.

i learned to drive a clutch when i was 15...and have never even driven an auto car yet. im 20 now so i would assume i know how to drive a stick....

i've already had my syncros replaced in third...it started grinding EVERYTIME when ishifted into third. it dint matter if i was driving hard or not.

now its grinding into every gear when i start my car. it grindes for my first 4-6 shifts then shifts fine.

i hate our trannys and its going to theh dealership for them to replace it. None of this syncro gear bull...grrrr

great. maybe I should stop driving so hard.
on the brightside... an older supra tried to pass me yesterday and I held my own. so maybe I will risk it and continue to drive my car hard.

You just downshift from D to 3 to 2... It's even in the manual.

Ive driven an oldschool SR5 Toyota with god knows how many miles on it. Diluvium got it correct, a clutch can outlast the car if driven properly. As for tranny leaks? Treat the car like you would treat your girlfriend and she will treat you the same and give you no problems--start slappin her around and your gunna get problems. Engine braking? Absurd in any daily driver. Think of it this way, the car can only slow down as fast as your brakes. Engine braking is retarded, places a great deal of load on the tranny and engine for no reason. I mean were not towing 40 foot rigs downhill are we? Use your real brakes, much easier to replace than a tranny, clutch or anything else for that matter.

ya no need to engine brake ever... with an auto. your brakes to a sufficient enough job, and if you really need to engine brake, both your hands should be on the wheel, cuz it must be serious

but at times i must say i drive my car hard..it has like 6300 miles on it, and i figure if something goes wrong, warranty will cover it

but lets say im on the freeway, some stupid civic, or accord, or anyone tries to race me.. i know i may loose if i jus try to gun it, cuz i have an auto, so what i will do, is drop it in second.. and floor it, then bring it to 3, then to D.

this is kinda like down shifting... and you get ALOT more power from doin this then just flooring it.

it is kinda scary, cuz it gets loud, and your rpm's JUMP

but i do this maybe once or thrice a month

As long as you rev match, engine braking should have no ill effects at all.

Just like letting the revs drop in a single gear. Turn your engine into an air pump, drop a few thousand revs, clutch.in-shift-blip-clutch.out in less than a second.

Only issue with engine breaking is if the engine has to match drivetrain rpm's at all. If they are slightly off, some clutch wear. If they are off quite a bit (like taking too long, letting rpm's drop to idle) then you will get clutch wear and over time may shock the drivetrain as the transmission, engine and your neck shock each other to match rpms.

just a reminder this technique takes a little practice to get right...and is unnecessary when comming to stop signs stop lights and vice versa, like posted before... use your brakes they are cheaper to replace, if you are engine braking to stop. now if your on the track or your running your favorite circuit of backroads learning how to properly downshift is key for faster times and less clutch wear, like the previous guy said its just a blip of the throttle and whether your heel toe downshifting or if your right foot is too big for that you can learn how to by just slippling the right half of that foot to the gas....practice practice practice, or you can say bye bye to your clutch...
