Default trd exhaust install question

I'm trying to install my trd exhaust, but I don't have any jack and jack stands except the stock one in my trunk. Do I need to buy those for installation? My car is not lowered yet, and so I'm wondering if it's possible to install the exhaust without lifting up or if I can install with lifting just one side where two spring bolts are. Thanks in advance.

Not to sound like 'Mr. Safety', but don't ever work under a car with only the factory jack holding it up - good way to die. Everybody thinks the car falling off the jack will never happen to them, but it will eventually, if you keep tempting fate. Always use jackstands - you're willing to spend the money for the exhaust, but not to stay alive while under the car? This is one instance when you absolutely should be using them - you'll be crankin' on the exhaust bolts to get them loose, rocking the car, etc. Not only that, but you have a whole lot more room to work with when it's up on stands.
If you're going to be doing any kind of work at all on your car, a jack and jackstands is not just a good investment, it's a neccessity. Don't be a fool.

You should really just take it to a shop where they can use the right tools and have a lift... thats the easiest way... it shudnt be too expensive for the install... i paid like 30 bucks cause my friends dad gave me a discount... do you know anyone that cud do it for you for cheap? otherwise look around and get different estimates... the factory jack shud really only be used for replacing a flat tire... like he said, dont tempt fate.. good luck

It all depends on what you really want.. if you want to do it yourself, go buy the jack stands and make sure you have the right tools... you shud be able to use the stock muffler hangars... but if you dont want to do it yourself, just take it to a midas or some shop near you, it shud b like 35 bucks max i think (dont quote me on it), but it wont b expensive... personally i wud do it myself cause when i did it, it was lots of fun and i felt better when i was finished cause i did it myself... also make sure you get like 2 jack stands (1 for each side)

Buy jack stands.... you'll be able to hang onto them for your next car, too.

They're like $25-$35 each... .and you'll want them for future mods.

Not just for mods - even if you do the simplest things like change your oil, rotate your tires, check your brakes, etc. Why wouldn't you have jackstands?

While it's possible to spend that much, there's no need. You can get an adequate pair for <$15.

you can also get ramps, but those can get tricky to use. As long as you can butt them up against something to keep them stationary as you drive a car up them, you will have good luck with them. They cost a whopping $40 most places, which is cheaper than a jack and jackstands, and you are not going to knock the car off of them ever. Just don't drive over them.

I installed my exhaust with the car sitting on the ground, and I have TRD springs. I know there are differences in the two cars, but it might be possible to change it wiout anything other than hand-tools.

I was tightening down one of thelugnuts on my car after checking my brakes, and the car rolled completely off the factory jack. Luckily I was tightening the last lugnut, but it could have easily taken a few toes or a hand off if the tire were not on. Don't rely on the factory jack...

The thread originator said he isn't lowered yet, but good luck getting ramps under a lowered car. Your body will likely hit the ramp before your tire does. IMO, ramps are pretty much useless - like you said, you have to find a way to secure them so they don't move; if you have a garage with a smooth floor, forget it. Plus, if your objective involves taking off the tire, the ramp can't be used anyway.
Trust me - I've been doing this a long time. Invest in a good floor jack and stands if you plan to work on your car (yeah, unless you have access to a lift - thanks for blowin' my point, Squall j/k).

I work on cars all the time, I just don't have a real driveway myself. True a jack and stands are MUCH better, but for something like this, ramps could work given the right conditions. My friend has a nice lift in his garage, to bad his Ferrari is always on there, or I might get to use it, haha.

to do the exhaust... hell... you could change that out without having to even jack the car up.

I didn't get my exhaust changed professionally and it was done in 20 minutes. I don't remember if I jacked it up or not.

hmm, i have a tanabe, and the exhaust was like the easiest install ever.....why would you take your car to shop to get it done if you are modding your car....save the money, get some jack stands for all of your needs...it will definetly pay for itself, and with the money you save from the installation, get a new shift **** or something...haha.....you'll have fun installing it yourself cause you can't really screw up....
