TRD Exhaust Question
I am looking at getting the TRD exhaust. I am looking for a little bit more aggressive sound and the TRD should be able to achieve this, without being too much.
1.)I am going to be getting a used TRD so my question is the used muffler has 19K on it. Will it be louder, rasper then a new one? Does this kind of milage change the sound?
2.) Lastly I want to be able to clean the exhaust before I put it on, any cleaners that you could recommand.

A couple of comments about used exhaust systems. In terms of whether it will be louder than a brand new unit, the answer is it shouldn't unless it has been abused and/or had a backfire that has damaged the internal baffling. Given the tC engines sophistication in terms of ignition, the risk is extremely low that you'll have this problem.
What will be a factor is the fit. New exhaust systems will naturally warp and change shape/alignment slightly when used. As such when you install this unit, it may take a bit of effort to ensure it all lines up tightly and you get good sealing at the axle joint where it connects to the rest of your system. Again, given the way the exhaust system is designed and laid out, this risk should be minimal as well but be aware...
Finally, to clean a performance exhaust system, use a good quality metal plish, specifically designed for stainless steel and/or alloy parts. Maguries or Mothers both have very good products to clean up you exhaust. One bit of advice: don't use a brillow pad or any other agressive cleaning tool. Use the metal polish and a soft towel/rag to knock down any dirt and/or scuffs on the exhaust. Using a brillow pad or 0000-steel wool can put hazing/scratches into the finish.

BTW jschneiderii thanks for all the info very helpful, but one last question, should I get a new gasket to replace the old one for proper fitment?
I would install with a new gasket (inexpensive and save you the potential an exhaust leak. I would also check all the hangers that come with the exhaust and/or your existing hangers if you reuse them. If they are cracked or damaged, replace with a new one.

i seriously doubt you will need a gasket and new hangers. i just took off my trd and it didnt even have a gasket. also, because its trd, you can guarantee that you shouldnt have problems with fitment. i mean, come on, its not like its a one piece catback, this is an axleback we are dealing with.
I bought a used TRD and it cleaned up really well. I've had the thing sitting in my garage since August and I just installed it today. It sounds absolutely beautiful and is quiet at highway speeds- definitely don't hesitate to get it.
Well I put the TRD exhaust on last monday and wasnt very happy with the sound. Under 3500 rpms hardly any rasp, but above that holly crap raspy like crazy. I also have no resonater. I took it off when I bought my tc. I have a megan header so any exhaust I would have gone with you will get raspyness.
I installed a 20" magnaflow resonater and WOW did it make a difference
. I love the deep tone and just loud enough for me. I love it and would'nt change at all. RESONATER is key for exhaust with a header.
