Be careful with the TRD clutch. I was gonna have it installed as an accessory today and they said if anything went wrong with my transmission or clutch or flywheel and the clutch showed wear then it would void my warranty and i'd have to pay full-price for all of it even if its a toyota part and toyota installed. they said the clutch will cause the driver to feel the need to "race" and racing damage voids the warranty.(i hope i condensed that well...it took the guy 45 minutes to explain it to me...)
The TRD clutch installed by a Toyota Certified Mechanic would not void your warrenty. If you did it at Joe's Discount Backyard Garage, and something went wrong with your transmission, then the warranty would be voided.
Also. the TRD clutch is only a 25% increase over the stock clutch and costs $440.00 you can buy better for cheaper. for 449.00 you can buy the clutchmasters stage 3 clutch (I bought this clutch) wich is a 110% increase over the stock clutch. Eh, but if you like the trd. go for it.

I almost got the clutch last week but installed they wanted 895 I think. So I opted out, I kinda wish I did becuase of the warranty would still be good. The guy that said he was told it will void your warranty is wrong.
no the guy was not wrong. there is a scion director for each district that determines if the performance clutch was used for racing or not. and the director from this district said it would void the warranty if found to be used for racing. i know this because the owner of the dealership, the general sales manager for toyota and scion, the general manager of toyota and scion, and the parts and service manager were all in the office with me figuring out the cost and availability of parts because i'm the first to order several accessories. we got the word straight from the scion district director, and i can't argue with that. keep on going after me and saying its wrong, but you're only wrong. i would check to see what your dealership says about this same thing before you have them install one. toyota has a lot of bugs to work out with scion.

U are totally wrong. Installing the clutch doesn't void your warrenty. Racing voids your warrenty, and that goes for anything that goes wrong with a tC without modifications. If they determine the malfunction was due to street racing they don't cover it in the warrenty. The logic of "Installing this clutch will make you want to race" is just silly. The TRD clutch is only 25% over the stock clutch, and the stock clutch just sucks. Eh, your own judgement i guess. but what they told you is both wrong.. and wright. But they are trying to put the blame of street racing on just replacing a clutch that handles what another 40 hp
The stock clutch is fine for what it is, and its fine for stock power. You might think a stiffer pressure plate has a more manly feel to it, but the fact is, the stock clutch will likely last at least 100k miles of average joe use.
If you drag race, it will only last a short time. Maybe very short. Maybe two or three runs depending on lots of factors. It is not warranted against that kind of abuse.
Exotic clutches have exotic problems. Multiplate clutches like the HKS triple I had in my Supra are not fun to drive on the street. Most metal clutches are not fun to drive on the street. They hook up really well, but they give very little room for error. The most exotic types have no room for error, which is why they call them race only.
Believe me, I thought after 36 years of driving manual transmissions I'd be fine with the HKS triple. No way. At first I loved it because it wasn't slipping like the one I replaced, but after stalling it in traffic many times and living with the rattling it makes, and feeling the zero driveline damping snapping the wheels, it gets really old fast. And you wish for something more friendly.
Unless you can drop the gearbox at home, changing clutches gets expensive fast. If you live in the Sacramento area, I'll make you a good deal, but it won't be free. Just be sure you need it before you jump in. And definitely get a lightweight flywheel at the same time, it's worth a lot more than the clutch is.
(FWIW, no clutch is rated by hp, they're all rated by torque - hp is unimportant to a clutch.)

it obviously voids your clutch warrenty, but you guys make it sound like it voids everything all together, no it does not.
yes the clutch will treat your transmission different than stock but if your transmission were to freaken blow up, your warrenty covers it. trd does NOT void warrrenty.

thanks for covering for me. Yes racing voids your warrenty but that has nothing to do with a clutch. Some say putting a sticker on a car makes you a racer and want to race, does that void my warranty?
