Default TRD tC Performance Exhaust

Does anyone have any feedback on the tC TRD performance exhaust? I just got a new tC and am looking at doing that first. Anyone know the horsepower gains and sound on it?

Like most axel-backs, it's more for sound then hp gains. You can expect a 1-2 hp. If you're looking for more gains you may want to look at getting a header.

Sounds and looks really good. That is about it. It makes driving the car more fun since you can hear the exhaust.

Thanx Rob! Most of the headers I have been looking at though tell me that I have to remove the Cat which would make it street illegal. So my choice was to either get the TRD Intake or the Exhaust. I didnt know the exhaust wouldnt give me hp gains. I just hate the fact that it's so quite when i am shifting!

BTW - I'm new to Scion and have quickly become a HUGE fan. I love my tC!

There is nothing "performance" about the exhaust. If you want ANY gains from an exhaust system, then get a full set-up. It does sound nice, though, and it is very easy to install.

I'm glad you're aware of the consequences of going to a header tClife, that will save you a lot of grief later on.

Here in Georgia, you don't have to get your emissions checked until your car is 4 (maybe 5?) years old, so you can actually run without a cat for several years. After that time though, the honeymoon is over. Your cat is in a landfill somewhere and you can't get your vehicle registered because it won't pass emissions. The tC is only a few years old, so this hasn't really come up yet (except maybe in CA)...but it will. Personally I can do without the extra 20 hp. I've got to have a way to get to work .

Thanx GangreneROof! Now my only concern is whether or not the exhaust will be too loud. I want a low rumble, that's all. I don't want it to sound like a Ricer! Does anyone know if the TRD exhaust is too loud?

I have the exhaust and it is very very nice sounding... no real noticeable hp gains.

Oh and I did a quick search/count and there are about 190004759874395723490759234759 bajillion threads on this exact topic. The search button will open doors to you you couldn't believe i.e. different combos of audio clips cai/exhaust, exhaust only, cai only, cai/header/exaust and all the brands you could imagine with dynos to show you gains (and loss at low rpm torque)

Like I said, I'm new to the site so I quickly found out about the Search button. Thanx citizen01.

the trd exhuast is also pretty expensive considering that it's only an axel back. you could probably get a full catback for the same price that sparks toyota or mcgeorge, even though it's a bit cheaper.

i decided to go wtih mild modifications and i have the exhaust plus and intake, and at certain rpms, you can hear both the whistling and low tone from the exhaust, but it's not that exciting because with your music and the noise from the road, it's pretty quiet. horsepower wise you feel nothing, and you hear more of the engine than the exhaust once you start get up to 6 or 7 grand. hope this helps, good luck

Thanx tan Cao. I was thinking about adding a catback but the dealer told me it would void my warranty. Did you guys get the same bit from your dealer??

pretty much anything that isn't trd and installed by the dealership is voiding warranty. So, you can either wait until your warranty is over, which isn't that long if you have the standard 3 year, or you can say "warranty is poop, i'll be a good driver and take care of the car and do whatever the heck i want because thats how baller i am. werd"

(i picked the second option)

Actually, that is not true.

No part will void the warranty, regardless of the manufacturer, unless it is proven to be the sole cause of an issue.

Read up.

I have the TRD exhaust and IMO it's the best sounding out of most of them out there... It gives you a nice low growl at low RPMs and a nice wound-up sound at higher RPMs without sounding like a fartcan. Performance boosts are negligable... 5-7hp tops.

Now im planning on buying an axle-back exhaust very very soon. im looking at both TRD and Injen. im leaning more toward TRD just b/c it from toyota and the dealer will never look twice at it. but i have heard mixed feelings, can anyone help me out....maybe with dyno charts. i've been searching through the forum and found one company do a test between a few diff. brands bt no TRD or Injen.

i was hoping that maybe someone could help me out.

also, some of you guys say that there are no gains in an axle-back, that in order to see gains you need a cat-back. but i have read that both cat-back and axle-back both gat about 5 whp (i.e. magnaflow cat-back claims 5-6 hp gain......greddy sp2 and HKS axle-backs also claim 5 hp) a lot of ppl are saying that ANY axle-back will get you 5-6 hp...true??

So does anyone know what the real anwers are??
