Has anyone gotten one of these oil filters @ http://www.trufilter.com ... supposedly they can add 5hp and a couple mpg to your car from just a screw on oi; fi;ter they sell them at hopupracing.com for $142.00 I don't think this is so type of scam or anything b/c its used in racing and it works by pumping the oil faster so it makes sense that it would work.

 

a renewable filter is a pretty cool idea. i dont know about the increase in power though. just because the oil gets pumped faster doesnt mean it will become more lubricant. Keep in mind that if the filter flows easier it probably means that it is filtering less gunk from your oil. If you want to squeeze out more power you might consider using royal purple oil.

 

If it flows better and filters as well it may free up some strain on the oil pump resulting in a slight increase of power. It probably wouldn't even be noticable.

yeah but its not a new idea thou last time they had some thing like that was back in the late 50's i think thats when they stopped using 'em

You will get NO HP increase from that filter and anyone that tells you otherwise is absolutely ignorant. The filter (almost any filter) is not the restriction that builds up head pressure on the oil pump. The bearing clearances are the greatest resistance to flow and control oil pressure under normal operating temperatures. These filters do work (as in they do filter oil) but they offer no real improvement over the stock filter and $142 + shipping will buy plenty of stock filters and possibly some oil too. Save your money for something you can enjoy.

 

Actually even if you dont gain hp you still never have to change the oil filter and only have to change the oil every 7000 miles instead of every 3000 so it would be worth the $142 in the long run and shipping is free at hopupracing.com

 

Why would you change your oil at 7k? Did the oil get better or something?

 

If you actually do the math and assuming you pay about $5 for the oil filters and change your oil every 5k mi., At 142000 mi. you would break even and after that the wonderful savings begin. I would be willing to bet you $142 that you probably won't own that car at 142000 mi. for one reason or another.

Thats what they say now I know there trying to sell something but it seems to be logical I can't say its true because I haven't bought it but technically neither have you. Im just trying to be open minded.

i actually did buy one of these. i noticed my pressure guage almost taching out when i floor it. you can really tell the increase and oil flow. i changed it at 3000 miles and the filter screen was actually full of paper from my previous filter. there is actually less mess when changing the oil. no oil filters to dispose of. i chose no bypass valve and this thing rocks. the people at trufilter are going to put my tc up on the site and my testomonial. the thing looks awesome too. extremely quality product. www.trufilter.com

No bypass huh? The pressure is real high now....... Google parasitic drag and try to equate what this will actually do to HP. Your oil pressure was regulated to be where it was for a reason, and if you understand much about engines you will come to conclude it was a GOOD reason. Once again we have a product that is the ultimate solution for a non-existant problem.

 

Technically it was regulated at that for cost efficency and say that changing to this oil filter is for a non-existant problem is like saying changing to an aftermarket air filter is for a non-existant problem b/c it has been regulated for what the stock filter gives. You can't justify it not working because the car company sells it with a certain type of filter.

 

how many old cars (70's 80's) do you see on the road today? They didn't use trufilter and they still run....

 

gee, i guess that sometimes a good quality filter is the BEST option!
