hey everyone, im purchasing my tC in about 2 months, and yes, i am getting the automatic, hopefully in flint mica.
Now i know must of you will flame me for wanting to make my auto tC fast, but i live in Staten Island NY, and its just too much effort driving with a stick. With that being said....
How much horsepower do you think the automatic tranny can handle without giving me problems in the long runand still being an every day car? Im looking to put between 270-300 whp. I've seen turbo kits already out for the tC, but i am sure they have all been installed on manual trannys, or at least thats what i thought , i may be wrong.
So yea, im stuck with a auto, and i do like to drive fast. If the stock auto tranny cant handle it, is there anything i can do to make it strong enough to hold all the power?
I'm sorry if i sound ignorant, i just havent read/learned about how much the tC's auto tranny can handle, and all the input you guys give me is great, and thank you so much. talk to you later.

i dont see why it will affect the auto tranny . I myself have auto for the same reasons why you have it. I say be safe and get the supercharger. It will be under warrnty. So if any probs do affect you you will be covered. All my engine mods i would do under the dealer. All other screw the dealer.
Yup, a supercharger would be best on an automatic plus if you are planning to use your car for everyday use, a supercharger would be ideal. I'm saving up to get a supercharger on my TC as well. Hopefully, I can get it by the summer.
there is no way the s/c is going to make the kind of power he wants and i dont see and auto tranny holding up to all that power i would imagine the gears slipping as it goes to shift but thats just me i would contact scionspeed.com since there the only ones with turbos for the tc right now and see if they know how they act on autos
Uh, drag racing....automatic rules...hence the CO2 shifted auto tranny in top fuel and modified drag cars.
Road racing...MT is the King for control of power thru corners
Stock car vs stock car .....racing around town..MT usually dominates.
Drag racing...Auto is king.....if built right.
Torque converter is key. By replacing your converter, it is like having a variable gear ratio. People always think that if you have a high stall converter, your car won't start to move untill you hit that RPM, not true. They just are not transfering 100% of the power that it is able to. ( Unless you have a lock up converter, it will never transfer 100% of the power. Just 100% of the power it is capable) The stall rating is just the point when the converter is transfering all the power it can. So you want to pick a converter based on what RPM your power band is and cam and what not. A converter is the first thing you should go for if your are planning on running an automatic for drag. To sum it up. They won't give you more power, they will help you utlize the power that you have

you can go with turbo with auto tranny, just get a boost controller to turn boost down when you don't fel the need for speed. i am getting the 5-speed just because i have never had one. All 3 vettes that i have owned were autos and i loved them. hard to beat at the track. but on the same hand highway racing is another matter altogether. my 2nd vette was comparable to a viper (hp wise) heavily modified, but on the highway when i would race one from 70 on up we would take off and they would down shift and leave me. i hated that, i don't want that anymore. i am looking for about 300 horses out of the tc i will have this summer and that will be enough. but keep searching and remember anything is possible if you have the money. If you can dream it then it can be built.

If you are planning on making your car turbo, auto will always dominate the manual in 1/4 mile. The ONLY reason for that is fact that you do not get out of boost (turbo does not pause when you shift gears) once you accelerate. If the car is NA or supercharged, manual would dominate due to less power loss. And if it does not, you'd need to learn how to drive and not miss gears.
To answer the original question, I would advise replacing your torque converter if you would like to make more then 220fwhp. Personally I am going with either Pro-Torque (I have it in my Lexus) or Midwest. Both are quality units that would take a lot of abuse and survive. You need to choose your stall speed depending on size and spool characteristics of your turbine. That would virtually eliminate any turbo lag you might have.

thank you so much guys, i was thinking about having level10 build my auto tranny and replace my torque converter. have you guys ever heard of them? thanks again for everything.

You know, if I didn't live in a city that has horrible stop and go traffic during most of the time I'm driving, I'd probably try out manual. More power (figuratively and literally) to those of you with MT, I just don't want the hassle while I'm living in LA.
