There's a weighted **** option?

Got my gearswitcher in today! Unfortunately I have to work early in the AM so no install tonight. That core will be inbound early next week!

 

I've just started doing weighted ***** as an option.

 

Hmmmmm.........very tempting I gotta see my schedule.

 

did you put the cage risers in? I am asking this because yours seems to be lower than mine... I will post pictures later today!

How much are the weighted ***** going to be doc? sounds very tempting but I am very satisfied with mine for now :D

I'm glad I waited 'til I had spare time to do this. The installation was a relative breeze, though in the process I sliced open a finger on something (still don't know what), smashed my pinky, and dropped one of the delrin bushings into that big hole at the back of the shifter cage (which took a good hour to dig out).

Put some duct tape over that bad boy unless you're a vascular surgeon. It's tough to get things out of that hole. Very nice product doc!

 

Anyone know of a way of removing that damn washer without a dremmel. I dont have one and i'm having trouble!

 

I was dead set on removing that washer by hand but after half an hour I broke out the dremel. A hacksaw should work. Or a file. I just couldn't pry the dang thing off without burning one of the sides down with a dremel though. GOod luck!

 

I dont have a dremmel. I ended up with a hammer and chissel. I was able to puncture a tiny hole next to the washer and then angle the chissel underneath. I was then able to hammer the screwdriver underneath it and pry it out slowly but surely!

WOW was that shifter install a pain in the butt. The washer was a pain, the removal and install of the plastic cup piece on the bottom was a pain, and removing the cage and installing the cage because of the shifter cables was the BIGGEST pain. Of everything that I did, that cage re-install due to the shifter cables was the worst. Having to rotate those pieces soooo far to get them to drop in...it took me forever and KILLED my hands.

The shifter feels good though. I have a 1.5" reduction w/o cage risers - I have the corsport shifter base bushings (they dont raise the cage much at all). The shifter is a bit stiff right now, but I heard thats supposed to be the case. I greased with marine grease like there is no tomorrow. it should be fun!

 

All you need to do is complete 20+ conversions and you get used to it. I did one just this morning, took me about 30 minutes from start to finish, while shootin' the bull the whole time. I guarantee, if you had to do it again, you'd go much, much faster the second time around.

I'll agree on that. Uh hey doc? How do you detach the shifter cables from the cage? I was going to take the cage out of the car to work on it but was unable to figure it out (or at least too scared of breaking something . . . but hey, that assembly is only necessary for the function of the car so what am I thinking).

For those of you that don't have access to a vise for the little plastic cup at the bottom, I used a 13mm and 14mm crescent (since that's what I had around), placed the 13 next to the cup and the 14 on top of the 13 in a inverted "v", put a foot on each handle and pulled up. Worked like a charm.

If I had to do it again I might just order the whole dang cage. That or find 20 to do before mine, though I don't think there are too many careers in reinstalling tC shifters.

The new shifter is stiff as all get out but I'm guessing that'll wear in. The new shifts are FAST.

That is how you get the shifter cables off of the cage.

 

Thanks! I found that thread shortly after I posted that question. Good info to know in case . . . uh . . . I dunno, I decide to replace the shifter cage with something else in the future (blender mount or something).

just had my doc I's gearswitcher installed.

 

It's amazing. After less than a week, my doc I's short shifter feels normal again just like the stock shifter. It would be one heck of a surprise to throw the other one back on though. The throws feel long again!! lol

 

Agreed. The new shifter has broken in quite quickly. I'm more than happy with this mod! Now on to the next money pit!
