Default underdriven or light weight crank pulley?

im looking to upgrade the crank pulley on my tC, i can't decide, do i want an underdriven crank pulley? or a lightweight pulley?

and at no point in the near future will i be s/c or t/c my car, so don't think with boost in mind.

Hi there,

So you plan to stay naturally aspirated with your tC. Here is a very quick summary...

A stock diameter crank pulley, such as the NST CR-Lite Crank Pulley, will provide you with better throttle response, quicker acceleration, and a slight improvement in fuel economy. Such a pulley would be compatible with your OEM belt and would also work with a TRD SC setup...

The NST Underdrive Crank Pulley would provide you all the gains mentioned above and would go one step further to free up a bit more hp and tq, thus providing better overall performance. Such a pulley would require a belt change and would also work with a turbo setup in the future, but would not be compatible with a TRD SC setup...

You can find A LOT more info regarding your question, and other frequently asked questions, in our comprehensive thread...

Either pulley can be paired with the NST Alternator & Water Pump Pulley Kit for further weight reduction... leading to better overall performance.

You can also contact us by phone or by looking for us on AIM.

Good luck and have fun with all your projects

to be honest i would love to do the underdrive pulley

however i have an amplified sub running in my trunk and i don't want to suck power away from that.

i understand that you guys have an overdriven alternator pulley to compensate, but budget is a minor issue here.

i did read the thread regarding your pulley sets, and they are appealing.

do you ever have any specials?

also, would an underdriven crank pulley adversely affect my air conditioning system?

None of your accessories, such as the a/c, power steering, etc will be adversely affected with an NST kit is used. This issue and many other FAQ have been discussed in many many threads, as well as our comprehensive thread...

dude... just got NST pulley set... no changes to the AC... no changes to anything that is being underdriven...

the alternator pulley overdrives the alternator back to stock speed, so ur radio wont dip..

i highly recommend these

If I just order the alternator overdrive pully, what belt will I need to get? I want to boost my electrical system rather than freeing up HP

I just ordered the CR-lite crank pulley, but I plan on getting the TRD sc later this year. I talked to Mike at NST and they are actually out of stock at the moment but will have another batch ready in about 3 weeks. NST really is the best.

No need to change belts if you are only installing the NST ALT & WP Pulley Kit.

Please feel free to contact us by phone or look for us on AIM should you have any further questions.

Thanks again!
