Default Valve cover leaking

I swapped a valve cover recently on my 07 tC for a powdercoated unit. While it looks great I've noticed I've leaked out (on the back side of the cover) a bit of oil.. which has amounted to losing about 1/2 qt of oil in a about a month... So I pulled the cover and saw the gasket had a nice tear in it.... until I can get to the dealer to get a new gasket or get one from TrdSparks, is it adviseable to use that grey gasket/sealant?

I got some last night and laid a bead down.. but it's not thick enough as I still can feel a tiny bit of oil seeping through that side where the tear is..

Would it be best to replace the gasket + put the sealant down?

I would assume so... just didn't know if anyone has used the stock gasket alone without sealant... my torque specs are about right, in case anyone asked.. lol

don't use the sealant on the new gasket. just put it on for now to keep the leak to a min. and and go get a new one.

o sorry i forgot to mention that you should put sealant on the corners where the cam caps meet the head because the v/c gasket can't seal tight corrners that well.

Yep, I always put a small dab of RTV in those spots if the application calls for it. But other than that the gasket should be used dry. Make sure to clean any oil or dirt off of the gasket surfaces before installing it.
